Background: A formal assessment of knowledge prior to the Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program (OKAP) may help ophthalmology residents identify areas of weakness and organize their study plans.

Purpose: To assess the utility of an OKAP pre-test as a means of helping students prepare for the OKAP.

Methods: A 91-question OKAP pre-test was formulated from the American Academy of Ophthalmology self-assessment study bank and administered in January to 28 residents at two academic institutions. Background: Cataract surgery is a major component of ophthalmologic surgical training. However, medical students often lack early exposure to intraocular surgery, limiting their ability to assess their interest in the field.

Purpose: To evaluate the educational impact of a cataract surgery dry lab workshop for medical students using the Kitaro Anterior Segment Dry Lab Kit.

Methods: The workshop included a faculty-led presentation on eye anatomy, cataract formation, and cataract surgery, followed by hands-on practice. Background: Patient feedback is increasingly recognized as a valuable yet underutilized component of medical student assessment. When collected reliably, delivered with specificity, and embedded in a supportive learning environment, feedback can improve communication, professionalism, and patient-centered behaviors while promoting reflective, self-directed learning. However, studies highlight limitations including inadequate longitudinal evidence for sustained improvement, inconsistent use of structured tools, and insufficient faculty guidance. Instruments such as the Patient Feedback in Clinical Practice (PFCP) questionnaire show promise but require broader testing, and links between learner feedback and patient outcomes remain weak.

Presently, there is great emphasis on medical students' research output and demand for healthcare practitioners with skills in data appraisal, research methodologies, and evidence interpretation; however, medical students do not receive formal training in research and data science. This presents a major gap in medical education as curriculums focus on USMLE preparation without exposure to statistical software or analytical thinking required for productive research outcomes or evidence appraisal. Accordingly, the “Data Science Research Bootcamp” addressed this gap through workshops focused on Python, R, and SPSS.

The persistent nursing shortage across the United States, particularly in Long-Term Care (LTC) settings, has complicated the healthcare system’s ability to meet the needs of an aging population. While existing research often examines progression from Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to Registered Nurse (RN), limited research explores factors influencing progression from entry-level LTC healthcare workers to Practical Nursing (PN) licensure. This quantitative descriptive study examined the barriers and supporting factors influencing advancement toward PN licensure for Medication Assistants-Certified (MA-Cs) in Arkansas LTC facilities. Introduction/Background: Academic promotion is an arduous and time-consuming process. Implementation of support resources is essential for faculty success. Supporting faculty through the process, we developed multiple promotion resources, including a robust online resource catalogue, peer coaching sessions, and detailed weekly email reminders. Goals/Hypothesis: To examine which resources faculty find most helpful in preparing their academic promotion application. Methods/Approach: We surveyed promotion applicants from 6 cycles (2020-2025). Faculty rated the usefulness of promotion resources, how prepared they felt at different points in the promotion timeline, and provided feedback about the overall promotion preparation process. Implicit biases within medical education can influence learners’ perceptions, clinical reasoning, and future patient interactions. This study analyzed implicit bias within the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine’s (USD SSOM) Pillar I pre‑clerkship curriculum using a two‑phase mixed‑methods approach. Phase I consisted of a subjective content analysis of randomly selected lectures across ten system blocks, examining both textual and visual materials for evidence of bias in eleven domains identified by the Association of American Medical Colleges. The project addresses a critical gap in nursing education by implementing a structured, evidencebased educational intervention led by an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to improve nurses’ knowledge of metabolic syndrome in residential care facilities. The purpose was to determine whether this intervention could significantly enhance nurses’ understanding and management of metabolic syndrome, a complex cluster of disorders present in adult populations. Nine nurses participated in targeted educational sessions focusing on definition, diagnosis, complications, and evidence-based prevention and management strategies. Each participant completed the Metabolic Syndrome Knowledge Scale (MSKS) questionnaire before and after the intervention to assess changes in knowledge. …

No prior study has evaluated gender trends within the plastic surgery subspecialty fellowship match. The purpose of this study is to examine gender trends across fellowship trainee demographics to assess and characterize existing disparities between male and female plastic surgeon counterparts.

Methods:

A review of the new board diplomates listed in the annual newsletter to diplomates of the American Board of Plastic Surgery from 2015 to 2019 was used to identify physicians who pursued various plastic surgery subspecialties. Logic models are an accessible tool to organize the planning, management, and evaluation of programs across healthcare disciplines. This methodological progress note describes the five standard components of a logic model (Inputs, Activities, Outputs, Outcomes, and Impact) and provides guidance for developing a logic model. Logic models offer a visual representation of the work and theory of a program and should be created with input from all interested parties. Logic models are living tools that need to be revised as programs evolve and new information becomes available.
