Background
- Considerable stigma exists toward persons experiencing homelessness (PEH)—a vulnerable population at greater risk for health disparities.1, 2
- Many healthcare students begin their programs without interacting with PEH and with preconceived notions influenced by societal stigma.
- Interprofessional education programs, such as the Enhancing Services for People Experiencing Homelessness program below, have incorporated experiential learning into curricula to address student biases and develop understanding and compassion.
- Educating students to understand issues that PEH face can help mitigate healthcare disparities.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of these interprofessional educational experiences requires valid assessment of the attitudes, interest, and confidence …

Center for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice Papers
Introduction: Although interprofessional education (IPE) experiences inherently include students from different academic programs working together, most quantitative IPE longitudinal research is analyzed at the all-student level or academic program level. There is a need to assess IPE outcomes at the team level.
Methods: Pre-licensure students participating in a two-year IPE curriculum were randomly assigned to 60 teams. Each student completed the Student Perceptions of Interprofessional Clinical Education Revised instrument, version 2 (SPICE-R2) using a retrospective pre/post-test design at the end of the first and second year. Boxplots of score changes for each of the teams were constructed. Differences in SPICE-R2 …

E-Cigarette Or Vaping Use-Associated Lung Injury (Evali) In A Hispanic Male During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Juan C. Naranjo, Muhammad Jamal, Aramide Tijani, Fatimah Bello
Research Colloquium
Background: Electronic cigarette or vaping product use–associated lung injury established the relationship between vaping products and lung injury. Overlapping clinical manifestations may mimic those of other respiratory conditions including COVID-19. Multiple radiographic findings including diffuse, bilateral, ground-glass infiltrates with lower-lobe predominance, eosinophilic pneumonia, and diffuse alveolar damage have been described. It is important to consider this as an alternative diagnosis, particularly in patients with respiratory symptoms and a history of vaping in the last 90 days due to increased risk of COVID-19 infection and worse outcomes.
Case presentation: A 25-year-old male with a history of polysubstance abuse and frequent E-cigarette …

BACKGROUND: Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) and competencies represent components of a competency-based education framework. EPAs are assessed based on the level of supervision (LOS) necessary to perform the activity safely and effectively. The broad competencies, broken down into narrower subcompetencies, are assessed using milestones, observable behaviors of one's abilities along a developmental spectrum. Integration of the two methods, accomplished by mapping the most relevant subcompetencies to each EPA, may provide a cross check between the two forms of assessment and uncover those subcompetencies that have the greatest influence on the EPA assessment.
OBJECTIVES: We hypothesized that 1) there would be …

Additive Manufacturing For Medical Education, Michael Noon
Additive Manufacturing For Medical Education, Michael Noon
College of Engineering Summer Undergraduate Research Program
A growing body of evidence is suggesting that anatomical knowledge, the keystone of many medical specialties, is suffering among new graduates. While a host of reasons are provided, one common thread that many point to is the decline of cadaver dissections in the classroom. Many virtual audio-visual tools are used to address this gap, yet evidence has shown their ineffectiveness. Given this gap, the high degree of flexibility found in additive manufacturing (AM), and the many uses AM has already found in the medical field, we propose its use to fill this gap, allowing for students to learn with touch …

Physical Therapy Faculty Articles and Research
Purpose: Microaggressions are “brief and commonplace daily verbal, behavioral, and environmental indignities, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory or negative racial slights and insults to the target person or group” (Gilliam & Russel, 2021). The effect of microaggressions has been explored among medical students, however, there is limited literature identifying the frequency and effect of microaggressions on Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students. The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of DPT students on clinical experiences to determine: 1) the frequency that students experience microaggressions, and 2) the impact of microaggressions on self-efficacy.
