Collaborative Healthcare: Interprofessional Practice, Education and Evaluation (JCIPE)
Jefferson’s Health Mentors Program offers an opportunity for interprofessional teams of students to learn firsthand about what matters to people living with chronic health conditions. Small teams of students from 12 different health professions work together with a health mentor, or community volunteer, to learn about their experiences with healthcare and wellness within the context of the Social- Ecological Model (Bronfenbrenner, 1979).
Pat Noto’s experience guiding college students inspired her to become a health mentor, and her experience as both patient and caregiver shaped her mentoring approach, as she always emphasizes the importance of compassion and empathy when working in …

Social media platforms have transformed the way we learn and connect with others across the globe. These platforms provide virtual synchronous and asynchronous opportunities for professionals from diverse backgrounds to share insights, discuss best practices, and collaborate. Interprofessional work involves collaboration of health and social care professionals both across the healthcare system and with individuals in related fields, such as law or environmental services. As a professional networking platform, LinkedIn® provides an opportunity to connect with professionals in other fields outside of traditional conferences and institutional settings.

Collaborative Healthcare: Interprofessional Practice, Education and Evaluation (JCIPE)
Over the past year, we – a group of pre/ health professional students – had the immense privilege to participate in the Jefferson Student Interprofessional Complex Care Collaborative (J-SICCC). Our team, composed of five students from diverse backgrounds and areas of study in prehealth and health professions programs, met and began working together in July 2023. With the help of advisors from similarly heterogenous fields, we embarked on a year-long journey with a simple, but not easy, goal: work alongside a single patient with complex care needs to navigate the tumultuous world of health and healthcare.

Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews
Purpose: Shared decision-making (SDM) is a method for a patient and physician to cooperatively consider a diagnostic or therapeutic option, ultimately empowering the patient to make an informed decision. Atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation is a procedure that would benefit from SDM given the risk of serious adverse events, the high rate of arrhythmia recurrence, and alternative treatment options. Implementing a patient decision aid (PDA) may help facilitate AF ablation SDM by succinctly conveying important information to patients.
Methods: Patients scheduled for initial AF catheter ablation were randomized to a virtual SDM visit utilizing a PDA, which covered procedural risks and …

Bridging The Gap: Psychopharmacologic Education And Side Effect Screening For Non-Prescribing Mental Health Professionals, Elaine Fitzgerald
Dissertations
Abstract
Problem: The United States is experiencing a growing demand for pediatric mental health support. Surges in mental health diagnoses and psychotropic medication prescriptions have occurred, compounded by a shortage of psychiatric providers. Non-prescribing mental health professionals are well-positioned to recognize psychotropic medication side effects. However, psychologists and counselors lack formal pharmacology education.
Methods: The quality improvement (QI) initiative was guided by the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model. The evidence-based psychopharmacologic education for non-prescribers utilized a quasi-experimental pre- and post- test design. Data collected from clinicians included knowledge, confidence, and skill concerning psychotropic medications. The Psychotropic Medication Monitoring Checklist (PMMC) screen clients …

Evaluation Of An Advanced Practice Provider Residency Program, Amber Juetten
DNP Projects
The primary care physician shortage can be mitigated by effective preparation and placement of qualified advanced practice providers (APPs) (Zhang et al., 2020). APP residency programs have shown to increase confidence and competency, which leads to an increase in productivity, job satisfaction, retention, and has a positive financial impact on the organization (Minichiello et al., 2020; Nutting et al., 2022; & Han et al., 2018). Potential concerns around the skills and confidence of new APPs has been the impetus for this DNP project, which aimed to provide an APP residency program that provided the support needed for an effective transition …

There is a radical shift in teaching and learning pedagogies to engage the learners in healthcare profession. It was a tough challenge for Pakistani educators of an esteemed university to motivate and assess the learners for concept absorption and critical reasoning using creative approaches. Teaching and learning styles have changed fundamentally from conventional teacher centred to inquiry-based student-centred approach. Classroom teaching in recognised nursing and medical institutes in Pakistan have transformed to blended and entirely online methodologies with the integration of diverse active learning strategies. The educators grapple to engage the millennials and to encounter this, gaming technological platform was …

Administrative Time Expectations For Residency Core Faculty: A Cera Study., Bryce A Ringwald, Stephen Auciello, Joseph Ginty, Melissa Jefferis, Stephen Stacey
Medical Education Articles
BACKGROUND: Academic family medicine (FM) physicians aim to balance competing needs of providing clinical care with nonclinical duties of program administration, formal education, and scholarly activity. FM residency is unique in its scope of practice, clinical settings, and training priorities, which may differ between university-based and community-based programs. In both types of programs, these competing needs are a source of faculty dissatisfaction and burnout. We performed this study to explore the allocation of nonclinical administrative full-time equivalents (FTE) for FM residency core faculty members.
RESULTS: Reported nonclinical administrative FTE time allocation is equivalent between university/medical school-based and community-based programs. The …

Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Theses & Dissertations
A well-prepared oral healthcare workforce is essential to the overall health of the general population. A knowledgeable and qualified workforce would be non-existent without strong academic programs and faculty to prepare oral health professionals. For over 20 years, the dental and allied dental educator workforce has been a concern for the oral health professions. Since most allied dental education programs are based in community and technical colleges, it is crucial to thoroughly understand the transition experiences of faculty teaching at these institutions. It is only through application and use of this knowledge that these faculty can be recruited, supported, and …

A Quality Improvement Project To Reduce Facility-Acquired Pressure Injuries, Carolina Rosario
All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects
Problem: Facility-acquired pressure injuries (FAPIs) pose significant risks to patient outcomes and healthcare costs ($500 to $70,000 per PI) in subacute rehabilitation (SAR) facilities. An assessment in a SAR identified a concerning pressure injury (PI) rate of 15.3%, exceeding the national benchmark of 10% for such facilities. This prompted an evidence-based quality improvement (QI) initiative.
Aim of the Project: This project aimed to reduce FAPI rates by 30% or greater among patients 65 and older using a PI prevention bundle called SSKINS (Skin, Surface, Keep moving, Incontinence/moisture, Nutrition/hydration, Self-management).
Review of the Evidence: A comprehensive literature review indicated that PIs …

A Resident Led Newsletter Is A Powerful Communication Tool, Jonathan Brown, Zuhair Ali, An Dao, Mike Wong, Rajeev Raghavan
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Background
Communication with stakeholders for a graduate medical education (GME) program depends on shared visual and written content. Residency training programs are embracing social media as a communication channel. However, curated information that may only be viewed by subscribers or followers is difficult to archive and may appear overwhelming to novice users. An electronic, printable newsletter may be a unique communication tool for training programs to share information among residents, faculty, and hospital administration.
Methods
We published a monthly electronic newsletter sent to all residents, teaching faculty, and additional stakeholders in our internal medicine residency program. We conducted an electronic …
