Transabdominal Versus Transvaginal, Kyla Camille Gray
Transabdominal Versus Transvaginal, Kyla Camille Gray
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Background: In the United States, there has been a 21% increase in the occurrence of premature births within the last two decades. These children are also more likely to require lifelong therapies, assistive technologies, mobility devices, and more supportive services throughout their time in school. Globally, preterm births, and their preventions, have become a topic of interest. One method that has had significant success rates is placing a cerclage to prevent cervical dilation; while simultaneously treating prophylactically for early delivery.
Objectives: The purpose of this integrative literature review was to focus on which placement of cerclages, transabdominal or transvaginal, …

Exploring Reasons For Opting Out Of Hpv Vaccination Among Patients And Health Care Providers, Megan Masters
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Background: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus that can infect both males and females, potentially causing genital warts, vaginal, cervical, anal, and vulvar cancers. According to CDC guidelines, the HPV vaccine can be given to boys and girls age 9 to 26 (CDC, 2017). Although cases of HPV have dropped as the number of HPV vaccinations rise, vaccine rates are still far below the Health People 2020 target of 80% coverage. With current rates of 49.5% coverage in females, and 37.5% in males through 2017, it is evident that current routes of vaccine education are not adequate (CDC, 2017).

Optimization Of Liposomal Encapsulation Efficiency, Christine Sharrett Joyce, Deidra Mountain Phd
Longitudinal Scholar's Project
Introduction:
My project was a continuation of the Vascular Research Lab’s (VRL) ongoing research at the University of Tennessee Medical Center Knoxville (UTMCK) aimed at optimizing liposomal encapsulation efficiency of small interfering RNA (siRNA) which can be used to silence genes to prevent a variety of disease pathologies.
Methods:
- Assay siRNA loading capacity of liposomes based on lipid concentration
- Development of a method for liposome purification: HPLC & HiTRAP Column
Results & Conclusion:
- siRNA loading capacity
- Higher lipid:siRNA resulted in increased encapsulation efficiency
- HPLC – did not work as expected
- HiTRAP Column – currently being optimized to be used as …

Addressing Hydrocephaly In Viet Nam: A Plausible Prevention And Intervention Medical Support Program Proposal, Chelle Mcintyre-Brewer
Addressing Hydrocephaly In Viet Nam: A Plausible Prevention And Intervention Medical Support Program Proposal, Chelle Mcintyre-Brewer
UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair
Families affected by hydrocephalus in Viet Nam have few options for sustainable treatment for a myriad of reasons, primarily centering on barriers to care prevalent to minority, underserved, and economically disadvantaged populations. High morbidity and abandonment rates often result from these circumstances. An interdisciplinary examination of the factors contributing to causal concerns reveals unique cultural considerations, language and literacy barriers, ethnic and geographic differences, as well as economic and governmental issues greatly impacting patient outcome for this condition. The author contends that a program that addresses sociological concerns, along with the medical treatment of the patient, proffers the opportunity for …
Comparison Of Interactive Video Test Performance To Overall Class Performance In A Biomechanics Course, Guinevere S. Bennett
Comparison Of Interactive Video Test Performance To Overall Class Performance In A Biomechanics Course, Guinevere S. Bennett
Occupational Therapy Faculty Research
Objective:
This study compared interactive video test performance and students' overall class performance. The hypothesis was that there would be a difference in video test performance compared to overall class performance.
Methods:
A total of 30 students participated in the pilot study from a master's level biomechanics course. Students completed four interactive video tests using EduCanon; content of videos included base of support, lever systems, scapulohumeral rhythm, and postural analysis. This content was reviewed with class discussion after completion of the interactive video test. The tests administered counted toward the participation portion of the final student grade. Student performance on …

Erasmus Mundus Master Of Bioethics: A Case For An Effective Model For International Bioethics Education., Jan Piasecki, Kevin Dirksen, Hamilton Inbadas
Articles, Abstracts, and Reports
Designing bioethics curriculum for international postgraduate students is a challenging task. There are at least two main questions, which have to be resolved in advance: (1) what is a purpose of a particular teaching program and (2) how to respectfully arrange a classroom for students coming from different cultural and professional backgrounds. In our paper we analyze the case of the Erasmus Mundus Master of Bioethics program and provide recommendations for international bioethics education. In our opinion teaching bioethics to postgraduate international students goes beyond curriculum. It means that such a program requires not only well-defined goals, including equipping students …
Simulation As A Clinical Remediation Strategy For Undergraduate Nursing Students, Sara Camp, Tammy Legge
Simulation As A Clinical Remediation Strategy For Undergraduate Nursing Students, Sara Camp, Tammy Legge
Faculty Scholarship
Development of clinical competency is a critical component of undergraduate nursing education. However, often when students struggle in the clinical setting with skills such as critical thinking and clinical reasoning, evidence-based resources for remediation are lacking. Because simulation is a well-established nursing pedagogy, could it be a valuable tool in clinical remediation for such students? The aim of this integrative review of literature was to examine what was currently known about clinical remediation using simulation and how simulation contributes to clinical competency. A literature search of three data bases was conducted to identify pertinent research using keywords such as simulation, …
