Jennifer had an unstructured childhood which allowed her time to follow her interests and explore local woods and creeks in Bucks County growing up. Jennifer went to Willow Dale Elementary and also was a graduate of William Tennent High School class of 1987. During high school Jennifer was involved in many activities and took a wide range of classes. OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to provide typical descriptive statistics, score distributions and percentile ranks of the Jefferson Scale of Empathy-Medical Student version (JSE-S) of male and female medical school matriculants to serve as proxy norm data and tentative cutoff scores.

SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The participants were 2,637 students (1,336 women and 1,301 men) who matriculated at Sidney Kimmel (formerly Jefferson) Medical College between 2002 and 2012, and completed the JSE at the beginning of medical school. Scholarship and Professional Work – COPHS

Objective. To implement and evaluate interactive web-based learning modules prior to advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs) on inpatient general medicine.

Design. Three clinical web-based learning modules were developed for use prior to APPEs in 4 health care systems. The aim of the interactive modules was to strengthen baseline clinical knowledge before the APPE to enable the application of learned material through the delivery of patient care.

Assessment. For the primary endpoint, postassessment scores increased overall and for each individual module compared to preassessment scores. Postassessment scores were similar among the health care systems. The survey demonstrated positive student perceptions of …

Introduction: Many factors alter gastrointestinal transit. Animal models are useful for preclinical studies of gastrointestinal transit, but terminal methods do not allow later study, and stressful assessment methods will likely alter the transit of the animal. To overcome these factors, we developed a new method to assay rat total gastrointestinal transit.

Methods: Standard plastic cages with their bottoms cut off were placed on wire mesh floors. Custom apparatuses were built to contain fecal pellets as they fell through the floors. While serving as Captain of Mustang EMS, I used Engaged Learning support to develop a series of educational programs designed to make campus a safer place and help Mustang EMS members grow professionally. By designing and implementing Emergency Preparedness Booths at events such as PerunaPalooza, I sought to teach SMU students how to recognize and respond to common medical emergencies such as alcohol poisoning, heart attack, and stroke. Hosting Emergency Response Training Scenarios helped to generate a crew of knowledgeable Mustang EMS officers that will ensure the continuity of this event. Necrotizing crescentic glomerulonephritis is found in anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) disease (Type 1), immune complex (Type 2) deposition and anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic (ANCA)-related disease (Type 3).

ANCA positive glomerulonephritis is typically characterized on renal biopsy as pauci-immune, with mild or absent glomerular staining for immunoglobulin, or complement staining by immunofluorescence.

Rare cases of concomitant p-ANCA plus linear immunofluorescence pattern staining have been discussed, however none with prior association with c-ANCA.

We report a case of systemic c-ANCA pulmonary-renal syndrome with anti-GBM-disease-typical linear staining on renal biopsy immunofluorescence.

The subjects of this study are parents of newborns born at Pennsylvania Hospital. The experimental group will consist of 50 parents who will receive supplemental information in regards to preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome. The comparison group will consist of 50 parents who will receive no further education from the one received prior to discharge of the hospital. Fatherhood issues in the country of Lebanon remain largely unexplored and undocumented. This review serves as a basis for fatherhood issues and presents a snapshot of the current situation with a background of some of the most related challenges affecting the issue of parenting in Lebanon. In addition, this review lays the background of how these challenges affect women of childbearing age who often end up raising their families on their own. Cultural and religious beliefs as well as factors relating to political influences in the Middle East region are discussed. The author concludes with a set of lessons learned.

Violence against women and children is globally recognized as a social and human rights concern. In Tanzania, sexual violence towards women and children is a public health problem. The aim of this study was to determine community knowledge of and attitudes towards rape and child sexual abuse, and assess associations between knowledge and attitudes and socio-demographic characteristics.

A cross-sectional study was carried out on 669 patients to assess the role of introducing ultrasound into obstetrical outreach in Lebanon. Data were collected, and descriptive statistics were performed. Sonographic findings were compared using Chi-square tests between underserved Lebanese and Syrian refugee mothers. Ultrasound plays a significant role in properly dating pregnancies in addition to identifying at-risk fetuses and detecting placental abnormalities. Medical providers need to make sonographic evaluation in the Lebanese outreach obstetrical setting more available and more systematic in order to secure a safe outcome for underserved Lebanese and Syrian refugee mothers and offspring.

Computer-assisted learning, also known as e-learning, has been successfully implemented to educate students in anatomical knowledge as well as transferable skills, such as critical analysis, teamwork, leadership and communication. E-learning allows students to self-teach material at their own paces and provides a platform for team-based laboratory approaches.

Several institutions have already integrated histology and physiology in team based laboratory approaches, but integration of histology and pathology instruction has been done to a lesser extent. BACKGROUND: Despite efforts to construct targeted medical school admission processes using applicant-level correlates of future practice location, accurately gauging applicants' interests in rural medicine remains an imperfect science. This study explores the usefulness of textual analysis to identify rural-oriented themes and values underlying applicants' open-ended responses to admission essays.
