The 2014 launch of the revised medical school curriculum provided new opportunities for librarians to collaborate with faculty. Due to past informatics instruction in the first year curriculum, we were invited to expand this content as part of a new formative Objective Structured Clinical Examination (FOSCE) initiative. This poster will describe the development and implementation of the FOSCE informatics curriculum.
In FOSCEs, small groups of students rotated through simulated patient encounters in order to demonstrate their clinical knowledge and skills. BACKGROUND: As a controversial topic in American society, abortion occupies a precarious place in medical school curricula. Although medical students believe abortion is a valid and acceptable topic, fewer than 20% of U.S. medical schools offer formal abortion education in either the pre-clinical or clinical years. Only 40% provide abortion lectures during clerkships. According to the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, student learning objectives, abortion education should be included at a minimum in the third year core clerkship. Spurred by the growing adoption of electronic health records, librarians developed an online educational module for second year medical students which was integrated into existing curriculum. This poster presentation is a summary of the project, which required collaboration with staff from the faculty practice group's IT division, the library's web services division, and members of the reference department.

The program, called the Master Teacher Leadership and Development Program (MTLDP), has increased library visibility and an expanded faculty understanding of how library resources and services can enhance education. The migration of traditional anatomy and pathology wet labs to a digital format requires significant planning and collaboration amongst key faculty, administrative, and technology personnel. In addition to conversion of course materials, the changed format necessitated the renovation of a traditional bench lab to a state-of-the art digital classroom, significant IT investment, and ongoing coordination by library, classroom and computer resources personnel. Standardized policies and procedures were developed to guide additional requests for software to support new educational initiatives.

As an academic health sciences library in an urban area, the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library is challenged to provide outreach services to a diverse user population and to the surrounding community. To respond to this challenge the librarians provide outreach services and programs to accomplish the following goals: Provide additional education to user groups within the medical center; Provide focused services at the point of need within the curricula and the hospital; Reach out to the surrounding health care community, offering medical information and consumer education; Promote consumer resources to underserved populations.

Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library librarians collaborated to develop a web-based HIPAA training module for the medical center. Content was based on materials from an outside legal expert. Special attention was given to clinical scenarios illustrating key issues in HIPAA regulations. Librarians drafted the module which was then reviewed by legal consul, the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the Graduate Medical Office. The final module was disseminated via the university's course management system. A corresponding module was developed for CME credit.

Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library librarians developed and taught "Introduction to Medical Informatics" to first-year medical students through the 2002/03 school year. In 2003/04, this course was restructured and integrated into the "Problem-Based Learning" (PBL) course taken by all first-year medical students. The goal was to improve resource selection and search skills, provide point-of-use learning and instruction, and to enhance the student experience. Librarians were assigned to individual PBL groups to act as advisors and guided the students through the informatics-related curriculum.
