Feeding pastured calves protein supplements weekly instead of daily during the winter made little difference in either winter or summer gains, according to research results to date.
Two sources of protein were used in the trial. (I) Second cutting alfalfa hay was fed at the rate of four pounds per head daily. One group of calves was fed four pounds per head daily and one group was fed 28 pounds per head once each week. A Survey Of The Helminth Parasites Of Pheasants From Brown County, South Dakota, Donald E. Gilbertson

This paper presents a study of the helminth endoparasite of the Chinese or ring-necked pheasant (Phasianus colchicus). The digestive and respiratory tracts of 262 pheasants, all of which were collected in Brown County, South Dakota, were examined. Collections were ,made from January, 1961, through November of the same year. The problem was divided as follows: (1) locating and Identifying the helminth parasites, (2) relating parasitism to the age of the birds, (3) ascertaining the seasonal distribution of the parasites, and (4) determining what gross pathological changes were due to parasitism. Massive Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage Originating From The Cecum, C. Grodsinsky, B. E. Brush

Six cases are reported of arterio-venous malformations of the cecum presenting with hemorrhage. Newer techniques of diagnosis and management are reviewed. These cases are of interest because of their relative uniqueness and clinical importance. The diagnosis of underlying disease in these cases is often difficult. Massive bleeding, if not controlled, is an indication for immediate operation. Recurrent bleeding, even if previously controlled, can also be considered a surgical indication.
