Effect Of 9 Α-Fluorohydrocortisone Acetate On Gastric And Salivary Electrolytes Of Normal Fasting Subjects, Ardis Stern Beckner

The effect of 9α-FF on the Na:K ratio, chloride, and pH of saliva and gastric secretions, and on the total and free acid of gastric juice in normal human subjects was investigated. This study was designed to investigate whether conditions could be produced in the normal human subject similar to those present in patients with primary aldosteronism by using large doses of 9α-FF. August and others found a change in salivary electrolytes when cortisone, desoxycortisone, or ACTH were given to normal subjects. In these cases as in primary aldosteronism there was a decreased Na:K ratio and potassium excretion, with sodium …

The Effect Of Infection With Polyoma Virus On The Protein, Rna, And Dna Of Mouse Embryo Cell Cultures, Lawrence E. Mcconnehey

In four separate experiments mouse embryo cell monolayers infected with polyoma virus and uninfected control mouse embryo cells were maintained in Eagle’s Minimum Essential Medium for periods of time ranging from 0 to 168 hours. The cell layers were removed from the glass by trypsinization. Samples of the cells were counted in a Coulter Counter and the remainder of the cells frozen after centrifugation, in a button. Later, the buttons were thawed and protein, RNA, and DNA analyses were performed on each sample. The micrograms per million cells of protein. A Study Of Regeneration Of Peripheral Nerve In The Rat, James C. Jay

Due to improvements in fixation and embedding techniques a restudy of regenerating peripheral nerve was thought advisable in order to better understand and describe the processes which take place.
Femoral nerves of white Wistar rats were used. The lesions were made by either crushing or severing the nerve. After a period of regeneration, varying from 12 hours to six days, the wound was reopened and the injured portion fixed in situ with 1% osmium tetroxide. The tissues were then removed, dehydrated, embedded and sectioned. The sections were stained and studied with a modified RCA EMU2A electron microscope.

This study was done to develop a manual to be used in instructing food service supervisors in Brazil.
The need for the study was established when the writer was asked to direct a training course for food service supervisors in Brazil. Correspondence with dietitians in Brazil reveled that there was a definite need for a manual which presents current scientific, and technological information.
Current literature was reviewed and studied to determine present concepts in each of the areas of food service supervision and management. A manual of instruction was then prepared which included these concepts.
