An acute brain insult such as traumatic head/brain injury, stroke, or an episode of status epilepticus can trigger epileptogenesis, which, after a latent, seizure-free period, leads to epilepsy. The discovery of effective pharmacological interventions that can prevent the development of epilepsy requires knowledge of the alterations that occur during epileptogenesis in brain regions that play a central role in the induction and expression of epilepsy. Gastrointestinal microbiota has been claimed to be affected by the diet consumed. In this study the effects of severe qualitative and quantitative protein malnutrition on cecal microbiota of male Wistar rats with or without neutrophil depletion were investigated. A total of 43 animals were divided randomly into 7 groups. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of fenfluramine (FEN) administered at single and repeated doses on brain, stomach and plasma serotonin (5-Hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) levels in rats. FEN was injected intraperitoneally at single doses (1, 3 and 10 µmol kg^{-1}) and given orally at repeated doses (1.25, 5 and 10 mg kg^{-1}) for 21 days. In this paper, a simple and rapid method for the purification of 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase from rat erythrocytes together with an analysis of the kinetic behavior and some properties of the enzyme are considered. The purification steps comprised high-speed centrifugation, 20-50% ammonium sulfate precipitation and 2', 5'-ADP Sepharose 4B affinity gel chromatography. The yield was 78.4% and the specific enzyme activity was 5.15 EU/mg proteins. The molecular mass of the subunit was estimated to be 59,566 Da by SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and native enzyme was found to be 111,000 Da by gel filtration column chromatography. This study was carried out to determine the effects of phenobarbital, administered orally and intraperitoneally over different periods, on paraoxonase, arylesterase, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activities and total protein levels in the serum and liver. Thirty-six rats, 16-18 weeks old and weighing 240-260 g, were used. Phenobarbital was applied both orally and intraperitoneally at a dose of 100 mg/kg. Paraoxonase and arylesterase activities in serum and liver samples were measured spectrophotometrically using paraoxon and phenylasetate substrates, respectively. Ten male adult Wistar rats were used to obtain some measurements of the lymph nodes located in the head, neck, forelimb and hindlimb. The lymph nodes were marked by the injection of Evans Blue and were then dissected. In order to provide sufficient data for the morphometric properties of lymph nodes, the lymph nodes on each side were counted, and the longest and widest diameters of the lymph nodes were also measured. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (SD) were kept in medium between the postnatal 80^{th} and 130^{th} day while environmental temperature (from 20 to 5 ºC) and photoperiod were decreased gradually. This study was conducted to evaluate the pharmacologic effects of Polygonum lapathifolium L. (Polygonaceae), growing naturally in Turkey. The antiinflammatory activity of the ethanol extract of the root and rhizome of P. lapathifolium was evaluated using carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats. Intraperitoneal pretreatment with extract at doses ranging from 100 to 500 mg/kg significantly inhibited the acute phase of this experimental model of the inflammatory process in a dose-dependent manner. At maximal dose (500 mg/kg), it exhibited a significantly higher action when compared with those of other doses and was found to be 1.08 times as active as indomethacin. The …

The presence and distribution of Griffonia SimplicifoliaI-B4 (GSA I-B4) and Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide (CGRP) were studied in the nodose ganglion (NG) (inferior ganglion of the vagus nerve), sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) and superior cervical ganglion (SCG) of the rat. GSA I-B4 labeling was found in all ganglia tested. Neither SPG nor SCG cell bodies stained with CGRP were undetectable. The pattern of the distribution of GSA I-B4 and CGRP labeled cells were quite similar in the nodose ganglion. They were found in the poles of the ganglion with some marginal labeling. In this study, 56 rats (Rattus norvegicus) naturally infected with both Aspiculuris tetraptera and Syphacia muris were used. The animals were randomly divided into the treatment (37 animals) and control (19 animals) groups. In this study, some blood, liver and kidney parameters of rats which were given alcohol orally were investigated at the end of 1st, 7th, 14th and 21st days. Forty male Wistar Albino rats (mean 196 g), 20 wk of age, were used as materials. Serum AST and \gamma-GT activities at the end of 1st day were significantly different between control and experimental groups from 40 rats studied. At the end of 7th, 14th and 21st days, the difference between two groups for AST and \gamma-GT activities in serum and liver were significant (p
