Nursing Faculty Experiences Of An Academic Merger: A Transcendental Phenomenological Study, Sherry Michelle Boone
Nursing Faculty Experiences Of An Academic Merger: A Transcendental Phenomenological Study, Sherry Michelle Boone
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to describe the experience of undergoing a merger of two or more academic institutions within the United States for nursing faculty who chose to voluntarily depart the organization following the merger. The theoretical framework guiding this study was social capital theory as it discusses the importance of relationships and the resources those relationships provide. While assets may be acquired during a merger, social capital must be developed over time and is important for building a new combined healthy organizational culture. The study included nine participants who departed the institution in the timeframe …
Does A Telehealth Education Program Improve Lifestyle Behaviors Of Individuals With Prediabetes?, Loretta A. Richardson
Does A Telehealth Education Program Improve Lifestyle Behaviors Of Individuals With Prediabetes?, Loretta A. Richardson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Chronic conditions are a considerable burden on the healthcare system, and one that is becoming increasingly prevalent is diabetes. Prediabetes is a condition that has become more common and diagnosed in many patients before an actual diagnosis of diabetes. Healthcare professionals strive to empower individuals to make lifestyle changes to prevent diabetes from occurring by informing individuals on how to manage prediabetes. For individuals that do not make the necessary changes to lower their hemoglobin A1c to below the standards of less than 5.6%, a diagnosis of diabetes occurs. It is estimated that five per 1000 individuals are diagnosed with …

Does Narrative Quality Matter During Implementation Of A School-Based Prevention Intervention? A Test Of Narrative Engagement Theory, Youngju Shin, Michelle Miller-Day, Jonathan Pettigrew, Michael L. Hecht
Communication Faculty Articles and Research
Narratives play a powerful role in sharing meaning and making sense of experiences. Specifically, health narratives convey storylines, characters, and messages about health-related behaviors and provide audiences with models for healthy behaviors, prompting audiences’ health-related reflections and decision-making. Narrative engagement theory (NET) explains how personal narratives can be integrated into interventions to promote health. This study utilizes NET to test direct and indirect effects of teachers’ narrative quality on adolescent outcomes during a school-based substance use prevention intervention that includes narrative pedagogy and an implementation strategy. Observational coding of teacher narratives in video-recorded lessons along with self-report student surveys (N …

This two-wave prospective study applied the Social Influence in Sport Model to investigate whether the social influences of parents, physical education (PE) teachers, and peers were predictive of students' intention to engage in leisure-time physical activity (PA). Participants were 2,484 secondary school students (11–18 years old) who completed a questionnaire assessing positive influence, punishment, and dysfunction from the three social agents (parents, PE teachers, and peers) at baseline, and PA intention at a 1-month follow-up. Structural equation modelling (SEM) yielded excellent goodness-of-fit and consistent pathways between the three social agents. Students' leisure-time PA intention (R2 =.103 to 0.112) was positively …

Philippine Journal of Physical Therapy
Introduction: The shift to telehealth exposed gaps in our understanding of how physical therapy students perceive patient assessment in a remote situation using the examination component of the patient/client management (PCM) model. The purpose of the study was to compare Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students’ self-efficacy performing patient assessment using the examination component of the PCM model using telehealth compared with conventional examination. To achieve the purpose of this study, the Physical Therapist Self-Efficacy (PTSE) scale was used. More specifically, self-efficacy in clinical reasoning was measured using the following items: (1) PTSE total score (2) performance of tests …

Utilization Of A Simulation Electronic Documentation Model For Healthcare Providers To Reduce Documentation Errors In A Hospital Setting, Icy Moton-Hale
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Background: Electronic health records (EHRs) are commonly used within healthcare systems across the United States. Although EHRs were developed to provide safe delivery of care, poor documentation quality remains a problem. Poor HER documentation can negatively affect many patients’ health outcomes.
Purpose: The purpose of the DNP project was to determine the degree to which using a simulated electronic documentation model to train nurses in an acute care unit would decrease documentation errors and missed care and decrease missed opportunities for patient education in EHRs.
Methods: The theoretical framework was underpinned by the Donabedian model, positing that factors associated with …

Meet Me In The Middle: A Scoping Review On Understanding Adolescent Needs In Climate Communication, Gwendolyn Monica Hoff Anderson
Meet Me In The Middle: A Scoping Review On Understanding Adolescent Needs In Climate Communication, Gwendolyn Monica Hoff Anderson
Master's Projects and Capstones
The greatest effects of climate change are likely to be felt by youth. Young people are disproportionately affected by climate change due to their critical developmental stage and lack of power, and they experience both higher severity and prevalence of mental health issues related to climate change. Strong emotions have long been recognized as potential catalysts for action, or they may lead to paralyzing feelings of being overwhelmed. Climate communication is a critical tool to spark climate concern and encourage action. Activism, in turn, may help youth manage their anxiety about climate change. This scoping review examines emerging evidence on …

Purpose: The rate of infant mortality serves as a crucial indicator of the overall health of society (CDC, 2022). The five leading causes of infant mortality are birth defects, preterm birth, sudden infant death syndrome, injuries, and maternal pregnancy complications. The prevalence of infant mortality varies across states, with eastern states and minority-ethnicity infants having higher prevalence. This thesis proposes utilizing the Safe to Sleep framework to introduce Giving Breath, a public health education campaign that introduced breastfeeding as an intervention to Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID).
Methods:
- Analyze current and new policies' impact on women's rights to breastfeed …

On-Campus Mental Health Service Use Among College Students With Autism: A Case Study Applying The Andersen Behavioral Model Of Health Services Use, Estella C. Lilyquist
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The unique set of impairments and limitations presented by students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) make the accessing of campus-based nonacademic resources more difficult and complicated than their typically developed peers. Each year, the rate of students entering college with disabilities continues to grow, but their mental well-being is relatively poor. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to apply the conceptual framework of the Andersen behavioral model of health services use (ABMHSU) to the experiences of college students with ASD to understand and predict their utilization of campus-provided mental health resources. The participants were seven college students with …
