Research Proposal: Turmeric Supplementation And Inflammation Reduction In Adults With Rheumatoid Arthritis, Alyssa Lietz, Jennifer Haynes, Hunter Taylor

Department of Nutrition Student Projects

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune and inflammatory disease that affects roughly 1% of the world's population. While disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) are mostly used for the treatment of RA, aiming to alleviate symptoms and prevent disease progression, there are limitations such as causing gastrointestinal toxicity and economic burden. In contrast, traditional Chinese medicine, specifically supplements containing turmeric, has gained attention for its potential to mitigate RA symptoms and delay disease progression. Turmeric, with its long history of medicinal use dating back thousands of years, offers a cost-effective and accessible alternative to DMARDs. The purpose of this research is to …

Defining Best Practices And Validation For Curriculum Mapping, Hannah Smith, Jesse Chittams

College of Nursing Faculty Papers & Presentations

The alignment of curriculum content with standards is a quality improvement measure used to identify gaps or overlaps in academic content. Curriculum mapping results, while commonly used, are rarely reported. Undergraduate faculty mapped 11 courses in a single timepoint using a web-based curriculum mapping tool. Quantitative results were calculated and compared to defined client needs categories. A validation analysis was performed by mapping one course in triplicate. Faculty feedback following the exercise was obtained by online survey. Three client needs categories were determined to be marginally out of range in the initial analysis of the quantitative mapping data. The curriculum …

Sexual Health Education Scope And Sequence, Sara Wadsworth

Honors Projects

Based on a significant amount of prior research, comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) has been identified to be the most effective method of teaching sexual health education (SHAPE America, 2021; World Health Organization, 2023). Comprehensive sexual health education improves healthy behaviors and outcomes, provides useful information, and is positively perceived by students (Gardner, 2015; Kirby, 2002; Robinson et al., 2022). However, the United States’ current sexual health education has not implemented this ideal method, which is shown through state laws, students’ experiences, underdeveloped skills and flawed understanding of concepts, and – most importantly – a lack of resources for teachers (Foley, …
