This review explores diabetic self-management in geriatric individuals, focusing on positive attitudes and support from family/friends as crucial for self-care optimization. A comprehensive search in health databases was conducted, which involved screening 248 participants across eight qualitative research studies. Themes emphasizing the importance of listening to one’s body, acknowledging hidden issues, and recognizing the impact of various factors on diabetes self-care were established. A holistic approach to self management, emphasizing the significance of positive attitudes, cultural sensitivity, and individual values in healthcare practices is recommended. Chronic Abdominal Pain In A Geriatric Patient: A Rare Case Of A Spigelian Hernia, Thomas D. Wright, Olumayowa Dayo, Lynne J. Goebel

We present a case of Spigelian hernia in a 77-year-old patient to highlight the difficulty in making this diagnosis and to raise awareness of this rare condition among physicians who care for geriatric patients with chronic bouts of abdominal pain. The patient presented to the emergency department with a two-day complaint of abdominal pain after three years of similar recurrent attacks. Results of the physical examination and computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen were consistent with a left-sided Spigelian hernia. Operative repair was performed using robotic-assisted reduction and the patient recovered without any complications.

Background: Narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) become the mainstay of widespread vitiligo therapy due to its great efficacy and safety compared with other modalities. The use of NB-UVB for vitiligo has been widely studied in adult patients, while studies on geriatric patients specifically are still very limited. This report aims to show the immediate response after the initial treatment, side effects of therapy, and other problems that were encountered during therapy in two geriatric patients with vitiligo who have been followed up for more than 12 months.

Leg ulcers one common problem in the adult population to geriatric with a prevalence about 1-2%. The pattern of life which tends to be sedentary, less activity, obesity, increased the incidence of leg ulcers. The duration of healing and recurrence occurs in majority of patients contributed the decline in quality of life for patients with venous ulcers. Abstract

Introduction:

We report an unusual case of E. coli meningitis in an elderly woman who presented to the emergency room with a chief complaint of intractable low back pain.

Case Description:

A 67 year old woman presented to the emergency room for a chief complaint of intractable low back pain. After admission, the patient developed delirium. Blood cultures were drawn. Patient underwent a lumbar puncture which revealed purulent cerebrospinal fluid. Results of the cerebrospinal fluid and blood cultures revealed pan-sensitive E. coli.
