Doctor Williams, of San Diego, became the one-hundred-and­tenth president of the Association at the 1973 meeting in Houston. The House of Delegates voted to establish the Commission on Accreditation of Dental and Dental Auxiliary Educational Programs, effective January 1, 1975. Doctor Williams was speaker of the House of Delegates from 1967 to 1972, after serving as a member of the House for 12 years. A general practitioner, Doctor Williams was president of the San Diego Dental Society in 1946, the Southern California Dental Association in 1959, and California Dental Service in 1961. In that year the United States Supreme Court upheld the decision by the Oregon Supreme Court vindicating the state law restricting advertising by dentists. Doctor Winter developed and taught advanced methods of tooth removal. His textbook explaining his methods became the leading work on exodontia. After teaching at St. Louis University for several years, he became professor of exodontia at the Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis. After being professor of materia medica and therapeutics first at the Chicago College of Dental Surgery and then at Northwestern University Dental School, he became dean of the University of Illinois dental school. Doctor Patterson was president of the Kansas State Dental Association in 1876-1877 and president of the Missouri State Dental Association in 1892. The reorganization of 1913 resulted in an increase in membership from 793 in 1913 to 12,494 in 1914. Doctor Gallie was professor and head of the department of operative dentistry at the University of Illinois College of Den­tistry from 1903 to 1932. He served as president of the Illinois State Dental Society, the Chicago Dental Society and the American Dental Teachers Association. Doctor Callie was prominent as a clinician, author and lecturer. Doctor Finley, of Washington, D.C., was elected forty-third president of the Association at the 1905 meeting in Buffalo. A committee of five was appointed to devise ways and means for the Association to "acquire ownership and control of a journal." Doctor Finley served as secretary of the Michigan State Dental Association and as president of both the District of Columbia Dental Society and the District of Columbia Board of Dental Examiners. He was active for many years on committees of the Association. He was born in Michigan in 1856 and died in 1932.

Doctor Banzhaf, of Milwaukee, became the sixty-fourth presi­dent of the Association at the 1926 meeting in Philadelphia. The Seventh International Dental Congress was held in Pliiladelphia at the same time. Doctor Banzhaf started his dental career as a private prac­titioner in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He was appointed dean of the dental department of the Milwaukee Medical College in 1902 and continued in that position after the College became part of Marquette University in 1907. He retired as dean in 1944. He was born in Wisconsin in 1865 and died in 1951.

Doctor Shepard, a general practitioner, was on the dental department staff of the Harvard Medical School from 1868 until 1879. Under a new charter granted by the State of Illinois in June 1922, the name was changed from National Dental Association to American Dental Association. Doctor Buckley was president of the Illinois State Dental Society in 1915. He was professor of materia medica and therapeutics at the Chicago College of Dental Surgery from 1904 to 1927, although his residence was in California after 1918. Crotalaria crispata and Crotalaria retusa (Rattlepod), two plants responsible for Kimberley horse disease*, are, unfortunately, fairly widespread throughout the Kimberleys. Both species are apparently toxic in all stages of growth.

This bulletin is to assist pastoralists to:-

• Identify the two plants;

• Recognise the type of country and conditions under which they grow; and

• Locate horse paddocks on country where the plants are least likely to occur.
