Consensual non-monogamy (CNM) and polyamory are types of relationship structures that differ in many ways from monogamy. CNM is becoming more prevalent (Moors, 2023; Scoats & Campbell, 2022). In the United States and Canada, 1 in 5 people have engaged in some form of CNM (Moors, 2023). As more individuals engage in CNM relationships and potentially seek out couples therapy, therapists will be tasked with assisting individuals navigating relationship distress occurring within these unique relationship structures. Despite improvements in the awareness and acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other sexual and gender diverse (LGBTQ+) individuals, the LGBTQ+ community continues to experience discrimination, which can result in adverse health outcomes. In particular, LGBTQ+ youth have an increased risk of experiencing depression, substance abuse, and suicide. Societal stigma and rejection, bullying, and familial disapproval all contribute to these health disparities. Background Transgender men (TGM) are underrepresented in genital microbiome research. Our prospective study in Birmingham, AL investigated genital microbiota changes over time in TGM initiating testosterone, including the development of incident bacterial vaginosis (iBV). Here, we present lessons learned from recruitment challenges encountered during the conduct of this study. Methods Inclusion criteria were assigned female sex at birth, TGM or non-binary identity, age ≥18 years, interested in injectable testosterone but willing to wait 7 days after enrollment before starting, and engaged with a testosterone-prescribing provider. This paper delves into the pervasive disparities within the healthcare system, rooted in historical injustices that are perpetuated by systemic biases, particularly affecting Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, as well as the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Through a comprehensive literature review and autoethnographic study, the paper examines the deep-seated issues faced by these marginalized groups, including access barriers, discrimination, mistrust of healthcare providers, and the enduring impact these have on health outcomes. Historical traumas such as the Tuskegee Syphilis Study and the use of HeLa cells underscore the enduring impact of past injustices on present-day healthcare experiences. Moreover, the …

This project focused on developing a guidebook titled Melodic Memories, designed to help occupational therapy (OT) practitioners incorporate occupation-based musical interventions into their practice. The guidebook aims to enhance occupational engagement (OE) and quality of life (QoL) for individuals with dementia residing in long-term care facilities. The presentation explores the impact of dementia on individuals, including how it affects their OE and QoL, and highlights the challenges posed by long-term care environments. Depression is a highly prevalent mental disorder in older adults, and among its highest risk factors is loneliness. Although this relationship is commonly evident, the mechanisms underlying it, such as sense of mattering and psychological adjustment, lack exploration. The current research aims to examine the relationship between loneliness and geriatric depression and explore the mediating roles of sense of mattering and psychological adjustment.

Adam Politzer was a Hungarian surgeon and medical scientist, credited with describing the cochlear nucleus and otitis media, revolutionizing its treatment through his invention of "Politzerization." After receiving training from notable medical figures in Vienna and London, where he studied and trained as a surgeon respectively, he became Vienna's first professor of otology. In 1873, he established the first dedicated otology clinic in the world. His five-volume textbook, "Lehrbuch der Ohrenheilkunde," unified otologic knowledge in his time and remains a resource to this day. Politzer's contributions continue to influence modern otology, solidifying his legacy as a pioneering leader in medicine.

Applying research to practice is an essential competency, and some educators have turned to course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) to support music therapy students in developing these skills. We provided a bounded CURE involving a research question requiring data from three different biosensors. We collected program evaluation outcomes where respondents reported increased interest and confidence in reading and doing research as well as personal investment in the project. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death for men in the U.S. and Black men are twice as likely to die from the disease. However, prostate cancer, if diagnosed at an earlier stage, is curable. The purpose of this review is to identify prostate cancer screening clinical trials that evaluate screening decision-making processes of Black men.

Methods

The databases PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, CINAHL Plus, and PsychInfo were utilized to examine peer-reviewed publications between 2017 and 2023. This is a co-authored poem collection focusing on Thai American life. In Bilingual หมา Standard Poodle, interactions and observations are made between a Thai American family and their supportive standard poodle named Pumpkin. This poem interjects on the disaggregated Southeast Asian American experience with inclusion of a pet companion. In Last Name กู Too Long, a Thai American graduate student discusses with their mother the challenges of gaining employment. This poem brings attention to hiring bias in the screening and interview process.

Background: In the United States, seven percent of adults identify as LGBT. The LGBT population is disproportionately affected by health disparities and barriers to care when compared to the cis-heterosexual population. Due to healthcare providers’ limited LGBT health education and experience, inconsistencies in LGBT culturally competent care perpetuate health disparities and barriers to care for the LGBT population.

Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to educate nurse leaders on LGBT cultural competency and facilitate nurse leaders’ behavior change.
