Mammary gland infections occur due to bacterial changes in the mammary tissue. Studies conducted in recent years have reported variations in the most common bacteria differ according to geographical locations. California mastitis test (CMT), somatic cell count (SCC), and aerobic colony count (ACC) analyses were performed on approximately 50 mL of hygienically collected raw milk samples. Mastitis is a contagious disease that causes significant milk loss and serious economic damage in dairy animals. Streptococcus agalactiae causes clinical and subclinical mastitis in animals and infections in humans, especially adults, and newborns. This study aimed to confirm the identification of S. agalactiae isolates by PCR in buffalo milk; to determine the antibiotic resistance and virulence genes by multiplex PCR. In this study, it was aimed to identify the predominant coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) species in subclinical, clinical, and persistent infections in Konya province, to determine various virulence and resistance mechanisms of CNS species within the agelactation level. The research has been carried out in a dairy herd that is free from brucellosis and tuberculosis and uses an automated herd management system. The research was carried out on 108 Holstein-Friesian dairy cows aged 3-5 years. The objective of this study was to detect Mycoplasma bovis specific antibodies using a recently reported MilA ELISA with the aim to detect M. bovis antibodies in milk. An indirect ELISA, based on a recombinant fragment of the Mycoplasma immunogenic lipase A (MilA) protein, was conducted on 291 milk samples for the detection of M. bovis antibodies. Samples were also tested with conventional Mycoplasma culture and M. bovis PCR. Samples were collected from individual cows from 2 commercial dairy herds in South Australia. The main aim of this study was to identify the association between the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the bovine interleukin-17A (IL-17A) gene and mastitis resistance. Additionally, the connection between the identified polymorphism and the somatic cell score (SCS) was tested. Two hundred and six Polish Holstein?Friesian cows were genotyped using the PCR-RFLP method. One SNP mutation (c.126G>A) was identified within the coding sequence of the analyzed gene. Results of logistic regression analysis displayed no significant association between the IL-17A genotype and clinical mastitis occurrence (Wald chi-square test = 0.74; P = 0.69). Mastitis is one of the biggest problems of dairy cattle industries. In recent years, fungal agents have been frequently reported among the causative agents for mastitis. Among the fungal agents, Candida species are the most common. This study's aims were the isolation, identification, and determination of antifungal susceptibility of Candida species causing mycotic mastitis in cattle. The aim of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of cefuroxime, herd-specific autovaccine, and cefuroxime/herd-specific autovaccine treatments in eliminating S. aureus from the milk of 45 cows with subclinical mastitis. Prior to this study, cows with S. aureus mastitis were divided into 3 groups of 15 cows each. The aim of the present study was to assess changes in acute phase proteins fibrinogen and haptoglobin, as well as hematological, blood biochemical, and microbiological alterations in local Bulgarian goats with experimentally induced Staphylococcus aureus mastitis. The experiments were conducted with 6 clinically healthy local Bulgarian goats, 2 to 6 years of age, weighing 46-57 kg. The experimental infection was done with a stationary phase culture of a field Staphylococcus aureus strain isolated from a cow with clinical mastitis. Blood haptoglobin in goats was considerably higher (P < 0.05) as early as 8 h after the pathogen's inoculation. The most significant differences from baseline values occurred 24 and 48 h (P < 0.01) after infection. Plasma fibrinogen increased significantly (P < 0.05) 8 h after infection and reached the highest mean concentration (9.12 g/L) by 72 h. Leukocytosis was established as early as 4 h after the experimental infection when leukocyte counts were significantly higher than baseline (P < 0.001). The analysis of results indicates that in experimentally induced Staphylococcus aureus mastitis, significantly higher (P < 0.05) levels of the leukocyte, fibrinogen, and haptoglobin are established as early as 8 h after the infection.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the use of Theranekron alone or in combination with intramammary antibiotic therapy for the treatment of subclinical and clinical mastitis on the recovery rate from mastitis. The study material was composed of 177 mammary lobes of 63 Holstein cows with subclinical (groups S1 and S2) and clinical mastitis (groups C1, C2, C3, and C4). In all of the treatment groups, excluding group S2, the California mastitis test scores were determined to have decreased after treatment (P < 0.05). In groups C1, C2, C3, and C4, which were treated for clinical mastitis, the somatic cell count (SCC) values were observed to have decreased. The decrease in SCC values was statistically significant except in group C2 (P < 0.01). The objective of this work was to study the protein patterns, plasmid profiles, and antibiotic susceptibility of Staphylococcus intermedius and Staphylococcus aureus isolates originating from mastitic mammary glands of dairy cattle in different parts of Konya province. A total of 114 Staphylococcus species were isolated and identified by conventional bacteriological methods from bovine mastitis. Of the total isolates 77 were identified as S. aureus and 37 as S. intermedius. Intra- and inter-species diversities in the coagulase-positive staphylococci were investigated by analysis of whole-cell protein profiles using sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). A systemic infection with Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus is described in a 22-day-old female foal for the first time in Turkey. Clinically the foal was in poor condition and had severe pneumonia. Painful swellings of the carpal and tarsal joints were evident. Examination of the dam revealed clinical mastitis. Postmortem histopathological and microbiological examinations of samples from the foal revealed a disseminated infection with S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus. The causative agent was also recovered in pure culture from a milk sample of the mare.

This study was conducted to investigate the coagulase gene polymorphism of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from subclinical bovine mastitic milk samples from 3 different Turkish cities (Hatay, Gaziantep, and Burdur). Amplification of the coagulase gene from 80 S. aureus isolates produced 5 different polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products; 79 isolates showed only 1 amplicon, and 1 isolate showed 2 amplicons. The isolates were grouped into 9 genotypes by analysing the restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of the gene; the 2 most common genotypes accounted for 73.8% of the isolates. In this study, a total of 30 Escherichia coli isolates obtained from milk samples of dairy cows suffering from subclinical mastitis in Konya, Turkey were typed according to plasmids and protein patterns. Agarose gel electrophoresis and sodium doedecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) methods were used to identify plasmids and whole-cell protein profiles. Of these two methods, SDS-PAGE typing proved to be more discriminate for typing the isolates.

Three hundred bovine milk samples with mastitis were used. Eighty-five (28.33%) strains were identified as Staphylococcus aureus whereas 60 (20.00%) strains were isolated as coagulase negative staphylococcus. Bacteriological cultures of coagulase negative staphylococcus were identified as 20 (33.33%) strains of S. hyicus, 16 (26.66%) strains of S. chromogenes, 9 (15.00%) strains of S. epidermidis, 5 (8.33%) strains of S. haemolyticus, 4 (6.66%) strains of S. sciuri, 3 (5.00%) strains of S. lentis and 3 (5.00%) strains of S. cohnii subsp. cohnii. Bacteriological examinations were performed on 206 mammary tissue samples taken from 160 cows with mastitis in Elazığ. The isolates were identified as Staphylococcus aureus (39.04%), Staphylococcus epidermidis (17.81%), Actinomyces pyogenes (14.38%), Escherichia coli (8.9%), Streptococcus agalactiae (6.16%), Streptococcus uberis (4.11%), Streptococcus dysgalactiae (3.42%), Corynebacterium bovis (1.37%), Pasteurella haemolytica (1.37%) and Bacillus cereus (1.37%).

The aim of this study was to estimate the cost of mastitis and the contribution of each cost component of mastitis to the total mastitis induced cost in herds with low and high levels of subclinical mastitis under Scottish field conditions. It was estimated that mastitis cost £140 per cow/year to the average Scottish dairy farmer in 1996. However, this figure was as low as £69 per cow/year in herds with lower levels of subclinical mastitis, and as high as £228 cow/year in herds with high sub- clinical mastitis.
