India ranks first among world’s mango producing countries accounting for 57.18 % of the total world mango production of 19.22 million tones. Aegle marmelos Corr., belongs to family Rutaceae, is more prized for its pharmacological virtues than its edible quality. Because of pharmacological importance, it’s become potential candidate for developing transgenics to enhance its medicinal properties. Maximum mortality of micropropagated plants occur during acclimatization phase because plantlets undergo rapid and extreme changes in physiological functioning, histological and biochemical changes. In order to investigate the actual reason of this limitation, test samples were collected at different stages of micropropagation of Aegle marmelos Corr. (In vitro stage, acclimation stage, and field established plants).

A standard uniform protocol of regeneration is the prime and foremost prerequisite for not only improve the productivity, the production from the existing area but also development of transgenics in mango for various traits. Polyembryonic cultivars are good rootstock because of moderate canopy, tolerant to draught, salt, environmental stress (wind, high temperature, air pollution), fungal disease (anthracnose, powdery mildew, gummosis) and hoppers.

Bael (Aegle marmelos Corr.) is an important medicinal fruit tree. The fruit pulp contains marmelosin, which is a laxative, diuretic, is being used in many patented drugs in India. Micropropagation technology can be gainfully employed in mass multiplication of improved bael varieties. We have developed micropropagation protocol of bael through shoot bud culture. It was imperative to test genetic fidelity of micropropagated plants using molecular markers (RAPD, DAMD and ISSR).

Maximum mortality of micropropagated plants occur during acclimatization phase because plantlets undergo rapid and extreme changes in physiological functioning, histological and biochemical changes. In order to investigate the actual reason of this limitation, test samples were collected at different stages of micropropagation of Aegle marmelos Corr. (In vitro stage, acclimation stage). The biochemical result showed that micropropagated plantlets produced significantly low total chlorophyll (0.042 mg/g fresh weight), reducing sugar (3.227%), NR activity (1.353 NO2/h/g fresh weight) and but higher protein (0.048 μg/g) during in vitro phase. Chitooligosaccharide or COS is a kind of oligosaccharide that is an integral part of the nervous system. COS is synthesized by chemical substitution and derived AE-COS, DEAE-COS and DMAE-COS that are being shown on IC(50) value. AE-COS and DMAE-COS exhibited four fold less inhibition than DEAE-COS. In addition, non-competitive inhibitor was identified via a Dixon plot and the Ki inhibition constant (100 mu g/mL). We declared, chemical substitution of COS is a water soluble human safe BACE-1 inhibitor.

Nucellar embryogenesis was induced in Mangifera indica L. cv. Kurakkan, a polyembryonic salt tolerant, dwarfing rootstock. Nucellus tissue excised from 3.5 cm long fruits developed pro-embryonic callus in 19 days of inoculation on modified MS medium supplemented with 4.52μM 2,4- D, 0.05% malt extract and 13.78μM spermidine. Somatic embryogenesis exhibited high frequency (158.33 embryos). However, all the differentiated embryos proliferated on medium having low level of sucrose (4% w/v) and auxin (2.26μM 2,4-D). The antioxidant and antibacterial activities of ethanolic extracts of in vivo grown Asparagus officinalis cv. Mary Washington were investigated using superoxide dismutase, erythrocyte haemolysis and 2,2diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazil free radical scavenging methods. The measured antioxidant and antimicrobial potential were then compared to the activities offered by the ethanolic extracts of in vitro grown A. officinalis as well as ethanolic extract of undifferentiated callus cells of A. officinalis produced on Murashige and Skoog medium containing 1.5 mg/l 6-benzylaminopurine combined with 0.5 mg/l naphthalene acetic acid. 1'-(S)-1'-Acetoxychavicol acetate (ACA) isolated from the Malaysian ethno-medicinal plant Alpinia conchigera Griff. was investigated for its potential as an anticancer drug. In this communication, we describe the cytotoxic and apoptotic properties of ACA on five human tumour cell lines. Data from MTT cell viability assays indicated that ACA induced both time- and dose-dependent cytotoxicity on all tumour cell lines tested and had no adverse cytotoxic effects on normal cells. Total mortality of the entire tumour cell population was achieved within 30 hrs when treated with ACA at 40.0 microM concentration. A foolproof method of micropropagation through in vitro shoot bud culture has been developed in guava cv. ‘Allahabad Safeda’. The stock plant of guava was maintained at shade net house (75% shade) and pruned severely to encourage new growth. Around 3 cm long shoots were excised and defoliated.
