The Impact Of Sample Processing And Media Chemistry On The Culturable Diversity Of Bacteria Isolated From A Cave, Katey E. Bender, Katelyn Glover, Alexander Archey, Hazel A. Barton

International Journal of Speleology

Although molecular approaches can identify members of microbial communities in the environment, genomic information does not necessarily correlate with environmental phenotype. Understanding functional roles can be done by cultivating representative species, yet the culturablility of bacteria from caves remains low, at 0.02%, limiting our understanding of microbial community interactions and processes. We have investigated several factors influencing culturability of bacteria from a single sample location in Maxwelton Sink Cave, WV, USA. Extended incubation of inoculated plates showed a significant increase in colony counts from two to four weeks, indicating that extended incubations increase culturability. There were no significant differences in …

Suitability Of Native Milkweed (Asclepias) Species Versus Cultivars For Supporting Monarch Butterflies And Bees In Urban Gardens [Research Data], Daniel A. Potter Oct 2020

Suitability Of Native Milkweed (Asclepias) Species Versus Cultivars For Supporting Monarch Butterflies And Bees In Urban Gardens [Research Data], Daniel A. Potter

Entomology Research Data

Public interest in ecological landscaping and gardening is fueling a robust market for native plants. Most plants available to consumers through the horticulture trade are cultivated forms that have been selected for modified flowers or foliage, compactness, or other ornamental characteristics. Depending on their traits, some native plant cultivars seem to support pollinators, specialist insect folivores, and insect-based vertebrate food webs as effectively as native plant species, whereas others do not. There is particular need for information on whether native cultivars can be as effective as true or “wild-type” native species for supporting specialist native insects of conservation concern. Herein …

Agroclimatic Zoning For Cultivation Of Saffron Using Ahp Approach In Sarab, Navid Yaghoubzadeh, Razieh Pourdarbani, Ardavan Ghorbani, Gholamhossein Shahgholi Jun 2020

Agroclimatic Zoning For Cultivation Of Saffron Using Ahp Approach In Sarab, Navid Yaghoubzadeh, Razieh Pourdarbani, Ardavan Ghorbani, Gholamhossein Shahgholi

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

According to agricultural experts, saffron is one of the crops that can be a good solution to the problem of drought in a water crisis situation. A plant which uses low water consumption and high economic incomes is a good alternative to wheat, a water-consuming crop. Saffron does not need water at all in the summer, and in the fall and winter, rain will irrigate this crop and require very little water during the year. This study was conducted to select the optimum location of saffron cultivation and its comparative study in Sarab with regard to the role of important …

Evaluación Y Socialización De La Economía Campesina En La Vereda Naranjos Altos Y Presentación De La Experiencia Del Cultivo De Arveja (Pisum Sativum L.) Como Alternativa De Producción En El Municipio De Algeciras, Huila, Mercy Liliana Zapata Pinto Jan 2020

Evaluación Y Socialización De La Economía Campesina En La Vereda Naranjos Altos Y Presentación De La Experiencia Del Cultivo De Arveja (Pisum Sativum L.) Como Alternativa De Producción En El Municipio De Algeciras, Huila, Mercy Liliana Zapata Pinto

Análisis De Ciclo De Vida En Cultivo De Cannabis Sp. Medicinal, Juan Sebastián Mora Aguilar Jan 2020

Análisis De Ciclo De Vida En Cultivo De Cannabis Sp.
