Corn Stalk Nitrate Concentration Profile: Implications For The End-Of-Season Stalk Nitrate Test, Wally Wilhelm, Gary E. Varvel, James S. Schepers
Corn Stalk Nitrate Concentration Profile: Implications For The End-Of-Season Stalk Nitrate Test, Wally Wilhelm, Gary E. Varvel, James S. Schepers
United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
The end-of-season corn (Zea maysL.) stalk nitrate-N test was developed as a post-mortem to determine if excessive or insufficient N was available to the corn crop during the latter part of the season. The stalk section specified for the test was very specific, the 20 cm-long section between 15 and 35 cm above the soil. Under production conditions, it may not always be possible to collect this precise stalk section. The objective of this study was to determine how nitrate concentration varied within the stalk from the soil level to the ear node, and how this variation could …
Pb443 Corn Production In Tennessee, The University Of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service
Pb443 Corn Production In Tennessee, The University Of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service
Field & Commercial Crops
Corn is the most important grain crop in Tennessee. The total acreage of corn grown for grain and silage has been about 700,000 to 900,000 since 1970, with the silage acreage remaining about 140,000 acres each year since 1970. This is about one-fourth the total acreage of corn grown in Tennessee in 1930, but increased yields have tended to offset reduced acreage.
The average yield 55 years ago was about 20 to 25 bushels per acre, which was no better than the yields recorded 100 years ago. Tennessee farmers increased corn yields from 35 bushels per acre in 1955, to …
Influence Of Western Corn Rootworm (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) Larval Injury On Yield Of Different Types Of Maize, Mario A. Urías-López, Lance J. Meinke
Influence Of Western Corn Rootworm (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) Larval Injury On Yield Of Different Types Of Maize, Mario A. Urías-López, Lance J. Meinke
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
Two field experiments were conducted in 1995-1996 to determine if there are common yield responses among maize hybrids to larval western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte injury. Three yellow dent hybrids, five white food grade dent hybrids, and a popcorn hybrid were included in the study. The minimum level of rootworm injury as measured by root damage ratings (3.2-4.2) that significantly reduced yield was similar across the hybrids included in the study. However, the pattern of yield response to different rootworm injury levels varied among hybrids. This suggests that maize hybrids may inherently differ in their ability to tolerate …
Zinc Fertilizer Rates And Mehlich Iii Soil Test Levels For Corn, Lloyd W. Murdock, Paula L. Howe
Zinc Fertilizer Rates And Mehlich Iii Soil Test Levels For Corn, Lloyd W. Murdock, Paula L. Howe
Agronomy Notes
Zinc (Zn) is the micronutrient most often deficient for corn in Kentucky. This problem occurs every year but is more commonly seen in years with a cool, wet spring. Although the environment, soil type and past erosion each have an effect, the most important factors controlling plant available Zn are the soil pH, extractable soil phosphorus (P) and extractable soil Zn. While the amount of Zn in the plant increases as the available soil Zn increases, increasing levels of soil P and pH are strongly associated with reduced levels of Zn in the plant.
Effects Of Enzyme Supplementation To Corn Or Wheat Based Diets Containing Low Energy And Protein On Broiler Chick Performance, Ergün Demi̇r
Effects Of Enzyme Supplementation To Corn Or Wheat Based Diets Containing Low Energy And Protein On Broiler Chick Performance, Ergün Demi̇r
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Two experiments were carried out in order to determine the effect of corn-soybean meal or wheat-soybean meal based diets containing low energy (DE) and low energy-low protein (DEDP) supplemented with enzyme on the performance of broiler chicks between 0 and 21 days of age. In the first experiment, three diets, namely, control, low energy (DE) and low energy-protein (DEDP) based on corn-soybean meal, were formulated. In the second experiment, control and three diets containing 40% wheat which have normal energy-protein (NENP), low energy (DE) and low energy-protein (DEDP) levels were used. The enzyme was added to the experimental diets, except …
The Determination Of Ensiled Qualities Of Corn, Alfalfa And Sugar Beet Pulp And The Effects On Food Intake And Nutrient Digestibility When Fed To Lambs In Different Forms, Pinar Tatli, İ. Hali̇l Çerçi̇, Fuat Gürdoğan
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This study was conducted in two stages to determine the ensiled qualities of corn, alfalfa and sugar beet pulp, and the effects on food intake and nutrient digestibility of corn and alfalfa silages used alone, together and with sugar beet pulp silage in lambs. In the first stage, corn, alfalfa and sugar beet pulp were ensiled and silos were opened after 45 days. Silage samples were taken for determination of silage quality and the samples were analysed. Dry matter (DM) levels of corn, alfalfa and sugar beet pulp silages were found to be 28.56 and 31.44, 16.74%, respectively. The pH, …

Ec01-872 Nebraska Crop Budgets 2001, Roger Selley, Tina N. Barrett, Richard T. Clark, Robert N. Klein, Steve Melvin
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
The 2001 Crop Budgets contains a list of representative field operations and materials that provides a reminder of items typically invovled in producing the crop. The budgets are presented in a worksheet format with a "Your Estimate" column for recording modifications in costs.
This publication covers the following crops: Forages -- alfalfa, annual hay, corn silage, grass, grass hay, and pasture. Grain -- corn, dry beans, grain sorghum, proso millet, oats, soybeans, sugar beets, sunflower, wheat.

This circular is a progress report of corn hybrid performance tests conducted by the Agronomy Department and the Northeast, South Central, West Central and Panhandle Research and Extension Centers of Nebraska and University of Wyoming at Torrington. Conduct of experiments and publication of results is a joint effort of the Agricultural Research Division and the Cooperative Extension Service.

Ec01-1880 Diseases Of Nebraska's Field Crops, Loren J. Giesler, Robert M. Harveson, Jim Stack, John E. Watkins, Jennifer L. Chaky
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Each year, plant diseases are an important factor in reducing yields of Nebraska's field crops. The purpose of this publication is to provide concise information in an easy to use table for many of Nebraska's field crop diseases. The disease information is organized by crop.
Diseases covered in this publication include the four main groups of plant pathogens: fungi, bacteria, viruses, and nematodes.
