Job Characteristics As Related To Job Satisfaction Of University Foodservice Employees, Kelly M. Duke Dec 1987

Job Characteristics As Related To Job Satisfaction Of University Foodservice Employees, Kelly M. Duke

Masters Theses

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between job characteristics and job satisfaction of university foodservice employees. The relationship of demographic variables to job satisfaction was also explored. A three-part survey was developed including the 30-item Job Characteristics Inventory, six items related to job satisfaction and seven demographic items. Separate written questionnaires were administered to 32 supervisory and 147 non-supervisory employees of a large state university foodservice department. The response rate was 98 percent (n=32 supervisory; n=142 non-supervisory).

The reliability of the instruments using Cronbach's alpha was .88 for employees and .91 for supervisors. Multiple regression analyses …

River Otter Reintroduction In Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Jane M. Griess Aug 1987

River Otter Reintroduction In Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Jane M. Griess

Masters Theses

Between 26 February and 31 March, 1986, 11 river otter (Lutra canadensis) were obtained from North Carolina, implanted with radio transmitters, and released on Abrams Creek in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. A total of 635 radio locations were obtained on eight otters.

Male home ranges averaged 14.1 km during the study (March - December) while female home ranges averaged 15.9 km. There were no significant differences in home range length (p > 0.05) between sexes.

A total of 75 scats (42 samples) were collected during the study. Food items were calculated on frequency of occurrence. Crayfish occurred in …

Field Method For Describing Root Activity Using Stable Strontium As A Tracer, Michael Aaron Krstich Jun 1987

Field Method For Describing Root Activity Using Stable Strontium As A Tracer, Michael Aaron Krstich

Doctoral Dissertations

Stable Sr was evaluated for use as a tracer for characterizing root growth or root activity of field-grown soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merr.). Root activity is defined in this study as the absorption of Sr with subsequent accumulation of Sr in the trifoliates. Previous research had established that the amount of Sr absorbed was directly and positively correlated with total root length and root weight in the zone of tracer placement in the soil. A 0.138 mole ratio of Sr(OOCCh3)2.0.5H2O to SrCl2.6H2O, containing 0.068g Sr ml-1 …

Effects Of Rainbow Trout Removal On Trout Populations And Food Habits In Great Smoky Mountains National Park, James W. Habera Jun 1987

Effects Of Rainbow Trout Removal On Trout Populations And Food Habits In Great Smoky Mountains National Park, James W. Habera

Masters Theses

The range of the brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has continued to recede since the 1930's in the face of expanding rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) and, more recently, brown trout (Salmo trutta) populations. Exotic salmonid populations have been controlled with relatively intense electrofishing efforts in streams having barriers to prevent reinvasion by these fish.

Two years of moderately intense exotic salmonid removal efforts were evaluated for a group of nine Park streams, eight of which had no effective downstream barrier. Food habits of adult sympatric book and rainbow trout collected from three of the …

Longevity And Fecundity Of Edovum Puttleri Grissell, With Notes On Its Effectiveness As A Biocontrol Agent In Tennessee, Nader M. Elkassabany

Masters Theses

In the laboratory, fecundity and longevity of Edovum puttleri Grissell (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) were determined. Longevity was tested at two temperatures and with three different diets. The tested groups were mated females, virgin females, and males. Mean longevity was 17.9 ± 2.2 days, and parasite survival rate was highest under a combination of 24±1oC and 50% water: 50% honey diet. Mean fecundity for each female was 1.9±0.2 eggs/24 hr and 40.8±4.8 eggs in 21 days. In the summer of 1986, field releases were made in Knoxville and Crossville to determine the effectiveness of the parasite as a biocontrol agent. …
