The data in this report have been obtained from a selected number of farms located in Central South Dakota. It is a summary of data gathered in a pilot program for the development of a computerized farm financial information system. For this reason the data in this report cannot be interpreted as representative of all farms or areas in South Dakota, However, it can serve as a guide to those persons with farm operations similar to the ones included in this report. Data is presented in this report on the average of all farms participating in the record keeping activities. …

Population Suppression Of Western Corn Rootworm By Adult Control With Ulv Malathion, K. P. Pruess, John F. Witkowski, Earle S. Raun
Population Suppression Of Western Corn Rootworm By Adult Control With Ulv Malathion, K. P. Pruess, John F. Witkowski, Earle S. Raun
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
ULV malathion (9.7 oz AI/acre) was applied by air to a 16 square-mile area during August of 1968, 1969, and 1970. Adult Diabrotica virgifera LeConte populations were reduced the following season by 39, 54, and 72%. No economic infestations occurred in the treated area the year following any application. Postspray migration of beetles was very limited, but adult migration during the peak emergence period the following season contributed to repopulation of the treated area. Migration and fecundity appear to be density-dependent factors which favor increases under low populations. Area suppression does not appear economically feasible, but adult control in individual …

Results Of The Fourth International Winter Wheat Performance Nursery, J. E. Stroike, V. A. Johnson, J. W. Schmidt, P. J. Mattern, K. D. Wilhelmi
Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station
The Fourth International Winter Wheat Performance Nursery was grown in 1972 at 44 sites in 27 countries. Data were reported from 40 sites. The 30 cultivars grown in the nursery included 15 new entries. Twenty-nine cultivars were winter wheats; one was a spring wheat. Data are reported on grain yield, test weight, plant maturity, plant height, lodging, shattering, winter survival, 1000 kernel weight, frost damage, plant diseases, grain protein and lysine content. Two-year mean data summaries also are reported. Supplemental nursery management information is reported for each nursery site.

"At Bjelland Vineyards Outlook Is Exciting" Article, The News-Review
Bjelland Winery Documents
This article focuses on Bjelland Vineyards and its prospects for future growth and development. Paul Bjelland is interviewed about the sales of Bjelland wines around the world, as well as some of the trials he faces as a vintner. In 1973 Bjelland Vineyards produced 2,100 gallons of wine, and Bjelland hoped to increase this to 3,000 gallons in 1974; in time, Bjelland would like to see production increase to 20,000 gallons annually. The article is accompanied by a photograph of Paul Bjelland "cooping" a wine barrel.

Tarnished And Alfalfa Plant Bugs In Alfalfa: Population Suppression With Ulv Malathion, K. P. Pruess
Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications
ULV malathion (9.7 oz AI/acre) was applied to a 16 mi2 area in August 1968, 1969, and 1970 for western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera LeConte, adult control. Nontarget insects in alfalfa, also treated, were monitored. Tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois), was reduced 89–98%. Survival of eggs and adult migration resulted in rapid reinfestation of the treated area in 1969 and 1970; adult migration alone was important in 1968. Alfalfa plant bug, Adelphocoris lineolatus (Goeze), was reduced 96–98%. Repopulation following the 1969 and 1970 treatments was by development from eggs surviving the treatment. The 1969 treatment resulted …

Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station
The beef cattle industry is experiencing a significant increase in demand for feeder cattle. Current difficulties in obtaining sufficient numbers of feeder cattle on a continuing basis have put pressures on the feeder cattle marketing system that did not exist in the past. Feedlot operators, growers (backgrounders), and cow-herd operators are looking for ways and means of improving the system. Innovations are being tested. Those circumstances prompted personnel of the Agricultural Experiment Stations of Kansas and Nebraska to undertake a joint study of cattle marketing under a Regional Research Project.

The Beeson Farmstead: A Study Of The Functional Aspects Of A Black Farm In The Richland Community, Annelen Archbold
The Beeson Farmstead: A Study Of The Functional Aspects Of A Black Farm In The Richland Community, Annelen Archbold
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This study documents the lifestyle on a small, prosperous black farmstead in the Richland community of Butler County, Kentucky. It is based on extensive fieldwork and interviews conducted with Percy Beeson, owner of the farm for aver fifty years. The result of the fieldwork and interviews was the documentation of how this farmstead, maintained without mechanical farm equipment, worked as a functional unit on a year-round basis.
As a functional unit, the Beeson farmstead is described in terms of the Beeson family and their ownership of the farm and the breakdown of the property into two dependent units. In the …

Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station
This bulletin describes nutrient and energy composition of beef cattle waste fractions as a function of the ration roughage level and type of feedlot. Results can be used to plan engineering system approaches and research to develop handling and processing equipment necessary for recovery of the most valuable portion of waste.

A Financial Data Summary And Analysis System For The Farm Supply Firm, Maurice D. Kniep
Open Access Master's Theses (through 2010)
The general objective of this study is to enhance the existing capabilities of a financial information system for farm supply firms. The standardized data will be useful to managers in reviewing and comparing the historical performance and in planning changes in the organization and activities of their firm. Specific steps to fulfill the general objective are: 1) Review the financial information system for farm supply firms developed by the University of Missouri and makes revisions and additions to the basic computer program, 2) Develop a coding form for input data that is a compatible with farm supply firms’ accounting records …
