Long Term Effects Of Direct Drilling And Conventional Cultivation On The Distribution Of Nutrients And Organic C In Soils Of South Western Australia, P F. White, R K. Belford, A D. Robson, N D. Delroy, R J. Jarvis

Division of Plant Research : Technical Report Series

This experiment was part of a long term tillage trial designed to examine the effect of various tillage systems on the yield of wheat on a range of agricultural soils in Western Australia. A subset of results from the main experiment is presented here. This report describes the distribution of extractable P, extractable K, total N, organic C, and pH at 6 depths in the soil from 6 locations; Wongan Hills, Merredin (H) (calcic, red-brown earth), Avondale, Merredin (L) (acid, yellow earth), Esperance and Mt Barker. Three tillage systems (conventional cultivation, direct drilled with a combine, direct drilled with a triple …

Evalution Of Grain Legumes For Wheatbelt Rotations In Western Australia 1986 -1987, G H. Walton Apr 1989

Evalution Of Grain Legumes For Wheatbelt Rotations In Western Australia 1986 -1987, G H. Walton

Division of Plant Research : Technical Report Series

Conclusions about the geographic and climatic limitations to the economic production of some pulse species in Western Australia cannot be too definite after only two years of gathering data. The yield results confirm the superior adaptation of field pea and narrow-leaf lupin over the faba bean, chickpea, narbonne bean and lentil. In 1987, a relationship was found within specific crop cultivars / accessions, between seed yield and the spring (September + October) rainfall. It is expected that soil type will influence the yield response through variations in moisture retention capacity, fertility and root penetration. Any relationship between yield and environmental …

Examination And Development Of An Essential Oil Industry In The Ord River Irrigation Area Of North Western Australia, Jean M.V. Bonnardeaux Jan 1989

Examination And Development Of An Essential Oil Industry In The Ord River Irrigation Area Of North Western Australia, Jean M.V. Bonnardeaux

Research Reports

The project aimed at establishing an essential oil industry in the Ord River Irrigation Area (ORIA). This industry is particularly suited to the ORIA where transport costs often prohibit the development of some agricultural products. The oils are concentrated and highly valuable. In addition, the ORIA with its abundant water and high temperatures presents a unique opportunity to grow a wide range of crops for the production of essential oils used by the food, medicinal and perfume industries. Australia has therefore an opportunity to initiate a new industry capable of replacing imports and gaining access to world markets representing a …

Replicated Single Row Evaluation., C. M. Saunders

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trial 89AB12

Great Southern Agricultural Institute - Paddock B15

This trial was of similar design to the single row evaluation, except four replications and pesticide treatments were also included.
However the trial had to be abandoned due to severe phytotoxic responses seen in the medics due to repeated spraying of 'Lorsban' (used at recommended rates).
Intended to repeat this work in 1990, bulk seed where possible and to eventually assess these lines, under such conditions, in large plots.

Pasture Deterioration Trial, J. W. Bowden, R. J. Lunt

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trial 89NA61

Location: Duranillin

In this site we would expect a very large response (40 to 50% ) to phosphorus.

History:

The site was chosen because of the patchy and poor pasture production. The poor areas tend to have more suckling clover than the good areas. The pasture was legume dominant.

Treatments were applied on April 16, 1989.

Rhizoctonia Control In Potatoes And Potato Resistance To Powdery Scab., R M. Floyd

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trials : 88BY26, 88PE34, 88MD35

Control of Rhizoctonia solani infection of potato stems and daughter tubers was demonstrated by preplanting applications of tolclofos-methyl (RIZOLEX TM) to either cut or round seed tubers. Yield of tubers from cut seed treated with Rizolex was increased over that of cut seed cured before planting bu not when seed was cut and planted the same day. Crops grown from round seed treated with Rizolex yielded higher than from untreated round seed.

Surface sterilization of seed tubers with Sodium hypochlorite was effective in reducing stem damage but not in reducing daughter tuber sclerotes. This indicates …
