Developmental And Morphogenic Responses Of Schistocerca Gregaria (Orthoptera: Acrididae) To The Juvenoid Pyriproxyfen (S- 31183)., K. Ghoneim, A. Al-Dali, R. Bakr, M. Tanani, A. Bream

Al-Azhar Bulletin of Science

To investigate the effects of Pyriproxyfen (S-31183) on the growth, development and morphogenesis of the desert locust Schislocerca gregaria, five concentration levels (1000, 500, 250, 125 and 62.5 ppm) were given through the fresh clover leaves as food to nymphs of three developmental ages: newly moulted penultimate (4th) instar, newly moulted last (5th) instar and late-aged last in star. All results were obtained 24 h after feeding. Pyriproxyfen exhibited a remarkable inhibitory effect on the nymphal growth and consequently nymphs were prevented to obtain more than one-third of weight gain of control congeners at the highest concentration level. Also, the …

Bacteriological Systems As A New Approach For Desalination Of Salty Water, R. Bayoumi, S. Louboudy, M. El-Gamal, M. Abdelwahed

Al-Azhar Bulletin of Science

Forty eight halotolerant microbial isolates were isolated from water and soil samples collected from Mediterranean sea (Alexandria), Ein-Helwan (Helwan), Red Sea (Hurghada), and Qarun lake (El-Fayoum). Soil samples were collected from Alexandria, Ein-Helwan, Qaron, El-Toor, and Sant-Katren. Three halotolerant bacterial isolates were chosen as the most potent halotolerant bacterial isolates for bacterial desalination of sea water. These isolates were identified as Sporohalobacter marisomartui BEW45, Marinococcus hispanicus BEW47 and Halomonas elongata BAW48. Combination of the three potent halotolerant bacterial isolates exhibited high desalination percentage. The highest desalination percentage (%) was achieved at 37 ºC, pH 6, for168 h., inoculum size 2.5 …

Isolation And Characterization Of Actinomycete Strain Related To Genus Streptomyces And Study The Active Substance That Produced, M. Houssam, Bahgat Refaat, Ehab Sabra

Al-Azhar Bulletin of Science

An actinomycete culture could be isolated from a soil sample collected from Bani-Swife governorate, Egypt. The isolate AZ-B2 produced a wide spectrum antibiotic (anti-Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria). The isolate AZ-B2 matches with Streptomyces griseoviridis in the morphological, physiological and biochemical characters. Thus, it was given the suggested nameStreptomyces griseoviridis. The parameters controlling the biosynthetic process of antibacterial agent formation including different pH values, different temperatures, different incubation period, and different carbon and nitrogen sources were fully investigates. The separation of the active ingredient and its purification was performed using both thin layer chromatography (TLC) and column chromatography (CC) techniques. The physico-chemical …

Effect Of Cerium And Cadmium In Liquid Radioactive Wastes On The Morphology, Proteins, Carbohydrates And Nucleic Acids Contents Of The Aquatic Plant Ludurigia Stolonifera, S. Abdalla, E. Mahdy, M. Soliman, D. Ramadan

Al-Azhar Bulletin of Science

Aquatic plant Ludurigia stolonifera is used to absorb two toxic ions (Cd and Ce) from low level radioactive waste solutions. The effects of these toxic ions with three concentrations on the morphology, carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acids (DNA, RNA) contents of the plant were studied. The results obtained in the present investigation showed a decrease in the weight of the plant, proteins, carbohydrates and nucleic acids contents with the increase in the concentration of toxic ions.

Concentration Of Petroleum Hydrocarbons In Sea-Water And Coastal Sediment Around Aden City-Yemen, Nabil Al-Shwafi

Al-Azhar Bulletin of Science

The present investigation was designed to determin of residual of petroleum hydrocarbons in seawater and sediments from Aden coasts, Yemeni, during April 2004. Additional hydrographic data such as air and water temperatures, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH and total alkalinity were also determinated in order to give a better appraisal of survey data. The mean concentrations of residual petroleum hydrocarbons in seawater were varied from 19ng/ l at Al-OmalIsland to 239ng/l at free area and in sediment from 9ng/g at Al-OmalIsland to 45 infront of refinery. The study revealed comparable level of petroleum hydrocarbons in this region to that reported for …

Spectral P-Wave Magnitudes, Magnitude Spectra And Other Source Parameters For The 1990 Southern Sudan And The 2005 Lake Tanganyika Earthquakes, Hesham Moussa

Al-Azhar Bulletin of Science

Teleseismic Broadband P-wave seismograms radiated by May 1990 Southern Sudan and December, 2005 Lake Tanganyika earthquakes at different azimuths have been analyzed on the basis of magnitude spectra. The two earthquakes represent the largest shocks in the East African Rift System and its extension in southern Sudan. Both events have the same surface wave magnitude (MS=7.2). The maximum average spectral magnitude for the first event was determined as 6.79 at 4 seconds period compared to 6.33 at 4 seconds period estimated from the second event. The other source parameters for the two earthquakes were also estimated. The first event had …

Cell-To-Cell Communication In Salmonella Typhimurium Dt104, Farag Saieb, Catherine Adley, Ailish Bergin

Al-Azhar Bulletin of Science

Salmonella is a genus of the family Enterobacteriaceae. Members belonging to this family are characterised as Gram-negative, non-spore forminer, rod-shaped bacteria. Motility forms of these bacteria have peritrichous flagella. Many members of this family of bacteria are commonly located in the intestinal tract of both animals and humans as either pathogens or commensals. The aim of this study was to confirm the absence or presence of homoserine lactones for the purpose of quorum sensing. Homoserine lactones are single molecules that are expressed by the bacteria when a critical cell mass has been reached. It allows the bacteria to coordinate their …
