Wild Type Drosophila Melanogaster Eye Pigments: Examining Absorbance Spectra And Light Sensitivity, Erin Brown, Taylor M. Delaney
Wild Type Drosophila Melanogaster Eye Pigments: Examining Absorbance Spectra And Light Sensitivity, Erin Brown, Taylor M. Delaney
A with Honors Projects
The eyes of wild type fruit flies contain various pigments that contribute to a brick red color. Chromatography techniques are used to separate and view these pigments. IN this project, the students extract and gather absorbance spectra for these pigments using three methods: eye pigment chromatography, pigment extraction and spectrophotometry, and spectrophotometry and photosensitivity. The methods are compared to determine how efficient they are at separating and extracting pigments and producing reliable results when examining absorbance spectra. To explore the photosensitivity of the pigments, we compare absorbance spectra changes to a pigment solution.
Nervous System Practical, Ben Albrecht
Nervous System Practical, Ben Albrecht
A with Honors Projects
These are slides for others to use to prepare for the nervous system practical. It contains labeled pictures of all the structures students in the class should know.
An Assessment Of Inheritance Patterns In Two Mutant Eye-Color Traits Of Drosophila Melanogaster, Jedidiah Heiser, Seth B. Yates
An Assessment Of Inheritance Patterns In Two Mutant Eye-Color Traits Of Drosophila Melanogaster, Jedidiah Heiser, Seth B. Yates
A with Honors Projects
This experiment was a two generation test cross (from F0 to F1 and F1 to F2) to check the patterns of inheritance and their chi-square significance. Wild-type males and females were paired with the opposite sex of the two mutant groups -- Sepia eyes and White eyes. The pairing thus resulted in 4 tube conditions. Generations were counted and identified by sex and phenotype -- Wild-type or Mutant. The next generation was seeded with approximately 6 - 8 individuals from each sex and released once the next generation reached their pupal phase. Fresh tubes were seeded between F1 and F2. …
Interitance Pattern Of Vestigial Mutation In Drosophila Melanogaster, Tori R. Witruck, Adam Padron
Interitance Pattern Of Vestigial Mutation In Drosophila Melanogaster, Tori R. Witruck, Adam Padron
A with Honors Projects
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the inheritance pattern of the vestigial mutation in Drosophila melanogaster. The experiment was to include two crosses with wild type and vestigial mutation, but the second cross experienced environmental setbacks potentially affecting the results, the experiment could lead to future testing on environmental effects on mutation.
Display Box For Cover Crop Roots, Haley Watts
Display Box For Cover Crop Roots, Haley Watts
A with Honors Projects
For this honors project, the student built a 2 foot square display box to showcase cover crops and their root structures to be used as an instructional aid. Includes photographs of the finished product.
In Vitro Transcription Lab, Sarah Oh, Samantha Christ
In Vitro Transcription Lab, Sarah Oh, Samantha Christ
A with Honors Projects
This is a lab and worksheet created by students of Biology 141 as a project for the A with Honors Program. to demonstrate transcription from DNA to RNA. After completing this exercise, the student should be able to distinguish between yields after electrophoresis, describe which varied substance contributed to the largest yield, and describe the importance of not contaminating the sample.
Biotechnology/Cloning Poster, Hye Tae Kim
Biotechnology/Cloning Poster, Hye Tae Kim

Composting At Parkland College, Della Jacobs
Composting At Parkland College, Della Jacobs
A with Honors Projects
This essay summarizes the student's efforts to establish a composting program at Parkland College. The student had previously worked to establish a garden plot to supplement the offerings at the College's food pantry and subsequently worked with the cafeteria to collect composting materials for the garden plot.
Hearing Loss From Traumatic Brain Injury, Nathan Young
Hearing Loss From Traumatic Brain Injury, Nathan Young
A with Honors Projects
Traumatic brain injury to the parts of the brain responsible for processing auditory information can result in hearing loss that is difficult to assess and treat. Symptoms can include difficulty in filtering background noises or filtering out specific sounds, confusion, and disorientation or nausea. Treatment of this type of hearing loss varies, but primarily consists of psychological treatment focused around rehabilitation and coping.

The Effects Of Cancer, Mara Lapayne
The Effects Of Cancer, Mara Lapayne
A with Honors Projects
I chose to do a project related to cancer for my Painting 1 class. Using oil paint, I wanted to create a more symbolic representation of cancer. So I made a cloud-like, cancerous mass with streaks of chaotic color swirling around a central face. The face represents any person affected by cancer and has had to “shut down” their emotions in order to function. I wanted the skin texture to be almost metallic as if it is metal armor or robotic-like, to support the idea of “shutting down” one’s emotions. The blank expression also portrays this idea.
