The Vims Trawl Survey : Juvenile Atlantic Croaker, Brenda L. Norcross, Ginny H. Shaw
Reports
An index of juvenile croaker recruitment was developed to test proposed relationships between juveniles and environmental factors. The VIMS trawl survey data base is unique on the east coast because of its duration and continuity. No other data set exists that samples the same species in the same locality with concurrent physical data over a long period of time.

York River Slack Water Data Report : Temperature, Salinity, Dissolved Oxygen, 1971 - 1980, T. J. Brooks
Reports
The slack water survey program, provides an extended series of temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and nutrient measurements along the York River. These have been used to:
1) calibrate, verify, and update mathematical models; 2) provide a baseline against which effects of unusual events have been measured; and could be used to: 3) establish annual and longer period "climatological" trends in response to changing natural phenomena and man-made modifications to the estuary; 4) provide a basis against which fluctuations in biota could be compared.
This report contains station locations, survey schedules, field procedures, sample handling procedures, and data reduction and storage …

The Density Of Oysters And Shell Upriver From The Campostella Bridge In The Elizabeth River, Dexter S. Haven, James P. Whitcomb
The Density Of Oysters And Shell Upriver From The Campostella Bridge In The Elizabeth River, Dexter S. Haven, James P. Whitcomb
Reports
This study estimates the density of oysters and oyster shells on that portion of the J. H. Miles Co. lease which lies within 450 feet of the upriver edge of the Campostella Bridge.
The Campostella Bridge is located on Route 460 on the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River (Figure 1). The area is restricted for shellfish culture by the Virginia State Health Department and salinities are high enough to favor the development of the oyster diseases Haplosporidium costalis (MSX) and Perkinsus marinum (Dermo). Because a combination of the effects of pollution and disease, the area has not produced commercial …

Bibliography Of The Monogenetic Trematode Literature Of The World, 1758 To 1982, William J. Hargis Jr., Dennis A. Thoney
Reports
Interest in the monogenean parasites has grown markedly in the last twenty years. To enhance and speed world-wide research activity, we prepared the first edition of this bibliography in 1969. This latest effort is intended to do the same.

Dorsal And Anal Pterygiophore Interdigitation Patterns In Four Species Of Morone (Teleostei, Percichthyidae) : An Aid To Larval Identification, John E. Olney, George C. Grant, Fred E. Schultz, C. Laurence Cooper, John Hageman
Reports
The diagnostic potential of dorsal and anal pterygiophore interdigitation patterns was examined in larval stages of Morone saxatilis, M. chrysops, M. americana and M.mississippiensis. The number and position of pterygiophores relative to interneural spaces 1-6 and 10-13 and interhaemal spaces 12-15 as well as total number of dorsal and anal pterygiophores are characters useful in delimiting larvae of American Morone species. Interdigitation patterns useful in separating M. mississippiensis and M. americana larvae were not found, however these two species may not co-occur.

Price Flexibility Analysis Of Virginia Hard Clams: Economic Considerations For Management Of The Fishery, Andre C. Kvaternik, William D. Dupaul, Thomas J. Murray
Price Flexibility Analysis Of Virginia Hard Clams: Economic Considerations For Management Of The Fishery, Andre C. Kvaternik, William D. Dupaul, Thomas J. Murray
Reports
Price flexibility coefficients estimated for ex-vessel prices of Virginia hard clams indicate a very small (4.292 x 10-6 to 6.994 x 10-6%) decrease in price would occur given a 1% increase in the quantity supplied by Virginia harvesters. Data used were monthly landings of Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Maryland and North Carolina over the period 1960-1979. Fifty-eight percent of the ex-vessel price changes are not explained by the supply response model used, suggesting other market and consumer demand factors play a large role in determining ex-vessel price. This conclusion is reached considering the historical range of production …

Oyster Spatfall In Virginia Rivers: 1982 Annual Summary, Dexter S. Haven, James Whitcomb
Oyster Spatfall In Virginia Rivers: 1982 Annual Summary, Dexter S. Haven, James Whitcomb
Reports
The Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) conducts weekly surveys from June through early October to obtain oyster spatfall information. Spat counts are made from oyster shells strung on wire and suspended from stakes on public and private beds. The number of spat on shells are counted each week of the spawning season to determine the potential of a particular area for receiving a strike and to predict the most likely period the strikes will occur.
