Introduced Annual Eriogonum In Minnesota, Charles L. Argue, Steven R. Argue Jan 1982

Introduced Annual Eriogonum In Minnesota, Charles L. Argue, Steven R. Argue

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

A selected summary of the utility of data derived from the recording and analysis of immigrant plant species is considered in relation to an apparently Introduced Minnesota population of Eriogonum annuum Nutt., the Annual Eriogonum. Fruiting specimens and one flowering-specimen of this species, heretofore reported on xeric sites from the western Dakotas, Montana, and Wyoming south into Mexico, were collected October 13, 1982, on the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge near Zimmerman, Minnesota, and represent the first records of an Eriogonum in this state.

Occurrence Of Corbicula Manilensis Phillipi In The Lower Minnesota River, Steven E. Cummings, James A. Jones Jan 1978

Occurrence Of Corbicula Manilensis Phillipi In The Lower Minnesota River, Steven E. Cummings, James A. Jones

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

On March 2, 1978, several empty shells of the fresh water clam, Corbicula manilensis Phillipi, were collected in the Minnesota River near the Blackdog electric generating plant in Burnsville, Minnesota. Since this Asiatic species was first observed in America in 1935, it has spread into all major river systems of North America. Its northernly extension in the Mississippi River system was, however, thought to end in northeast Iowa and to exclude Minnesota. Occurrence of this species is a potential liability because it often exerts a disruptive influence in the community that it invades.

Morone Chrysops (Rafinesque): The White Bass In Lake Superior, Jay T. Hatch, Byron F. Clark Jan 1977

Morone Chrysops (Rafinesque): The White Bass In Lake Superior, Jay T. Hatch, Byron F. Clark

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

On August 18, 1975, a young-of-the-year white bass, Morone chrysops was beach seined from Lake Superior at Marquette, Michigan. This is the first reported occurrence of the species in Lake Superior or its tributaries since an unverifiable sighting about 1880. Most likely the species has been recently introduced or has migrated through the St. Mary's River from Lake Huron or Lake Michigan.

Discovery Of The Northern Hog Sucker In The Ottertail River, Mark A. Otnes Jan 1973

Discovery Of The Northern Hog Sucker In The Ottertail River, Mark A. Otnes

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

On June 3, 1973 several specimens of the Northern Hog Sucker (Hypentelium nigricans), were collected from a six-mile stretch of the Ottertail River, Aurdal Township, Ottertail County in Minnesota. Previous to this the Northern Hog Sucker has never been collected or reported from the Red River drainage, of which the Ottertail River is a part, nor from Upper Mississippi River Basin adjacent to the Red River drainage. As far back as 1907 researchers erroneously reported the Northern Hog Sucker from the Upper Mississippi River Basin.

Northern And Western Corn Rootworms In Minnesota, H. C. Chiang, R. G. Flaskerd Jan 1969

Northern And Western Corn Rootworms In Minnesota, H. C. Chiang, R. G. Flaskerd

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

The occurrence and population changes of the northern corn rootworm, Diabrotica longicornis (Say), and the western corn rootworm, D. virgifera LeConte, were reviewed on the basis of information assembled at the Department of Agriculture of the State of Minnesota; and the Department of Entomology, Fisheries, and Wildlife and the Extension Entomologist's Office of the University of Minnesota.

The review shows no record of the northern species in Minnesota before 1899, but it appeared between 1899 and 1915. Populations were probably very law until 1932. Sporadic infestations were reported between 1932 and l 953. Progressive increase in infestation from 1954 paralleled …
