On The Distribution, Taxonomy And Karyology Of The Genus Plecotus (Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae) In Turkey, Ahmet Karataş, Nuri̇ Yi̇ği̇t, Ercüment Çolak, Tolga Kankiliç

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Plecotus auritus and Plecotus austriacus were recorded from 8 and 3 localities in the Asiatic part of Turkey, respectively. It was determined that the length of the first premolar, the shape of the zygomatic arches and baculum distinguish these taxa from each other. Apart from these morphological characteristics, the tibia length of P. austriacus was found to be significantly greater than that of P. austriacus (P < 0.05). The diploid chromosome numbers were identical in both taxa (2n = 32). The number of chromosomal arms (FN = 54) and the number of autosomal chromosomal arms (FNa = 50) were the same as in previously published papers on P. austriacus.

An Econometric Analysis Of Apricot Supply And Export Demand In Turkey, İlkay Dellal, A. Ali̇ Koç Jan 2003

An Econometric Analysis Of Apricot Supply And Export Demand In Turkey, İlkay Dellal, A. Ali̇ Koç

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study estimates a supply model for apricots and an export demand model for dried apricots for Turkey to provide unit-free measure coefficients for better supply and marketing management. Using parameter estimates from the models and sample average data, elasticities of long-run supply, price-yield and export of dried apricots were computed as 0.72, 0.54 and -0.87 respectively. From the price dependent export demand model, the price flexibility of dried apricots was calculated as -0.71. In this study, the import demand elasticities of dried apricots for major destination countries were estimated and found to be inelastic. An evaluation of aggregated household …

This study was carried out during the spring and autumn production seasons in 1999 and 2000 in two greenhouses belonging to a local farmer, each of them 1000 m^2 in size. The infested leaves from insecticide-treated and non-treated greenhouses were sampled weekly. The leaves were sampled weekly from both greenhouses and kept in our laboratory under observation to compare the number of emerging leafminer adults. Despite the applications, during three of the four seasons examined, pest density in the insecticide-treated greenhouse was not …

Eimeria species were identified following sporulation of faeces in a thin layer of 2.5% potassium dichromate for one or two weeks at 25 ºC. All samples were later examined for identification of Eimeria species. Nine different species of Eimeria oocysts were detected in 73.6% of the goats. These species were …

The growth parameters for males and females were estimated to be L_{\infinity} = 19.88869 cm, K = 0.1867795 and t_0 = -2.3 and L_{\infinity} = 21.8742 cm, K = 0.168014 and t_0 = -2.1, respectively. We also found that the length-weight …

Measuring The Market Power Of The Banana Import Market In Turkey, Seli̇m Adem Hatirli, Eugene Jones, Ali̇ Riza Aktaş Jan 2003

Measuring The Market Power Of The Banana Import Market In Turkey, Seli̇m Adem Hatirli, Eugene Jones, Ali̇ Riza Aktaş

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Banana production in Turkey represents a small fraction of that required to meet domestic consumption. Domestic consumption totaled 188,000 t in 2000, whereas production amounted to just 64,000 t, or 34% of consumption. The gap between consumption and production is made up by imports and 5 multinational firms control the flow of more than 80% of the global banana trade. Given this firm dominance in the world trade of bananas, oligopoly theory would suggest the presence of underlying structural forces that could facilitate price-enhancing market power. As such, this study develops an integrated trade and new empirical industrial organization (NEIO) …

Age-Dependent Cranial Variations In Mesocricetus Brandti (Mammalia: Rodentia) Distributed In Turkey, Nuri̇ Yi̇ği̇t Jan 2003

Age-Dependent Cranial Variations In Mesocricetus Brandti (Mammalia: Rodentia) Distributed In Turkey, Nuri̇ Yi̇ği̇t

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Animals were assigned to four age groups according to molar wear, field notes and external and cranial measurements. Six days-old animals were referred to newborn, up to 30 days as young and thereafter as adult; animals with very worn molars were considered old. In addition to the statistical differences among age groups, it was determined that the main morphological differences were in the interorbital constriction, the shape of the braincase, the ridges and the position of occipital condyles. While the incisors and the first molars erupted in seven days-old animals, the second and third molars begun to erupt after seven …
