Microbes play a significant role in ecosystems, effecting the vital functions of other organisms, interspecies relationships, and population sizes. Based upon previous research (Skelton et al., 2016), it has been hypothesized that crayfish symbionts (branchiobdellidans) play a significant role in regulating the amount of microbiota associated with the host. A growing body of knowledge is known regarding both the condition of gill fouling and the annelid worm’s symbiotic relationship with the crayfish (Skelton et al., 2016; Skelton et al., 2016). However, there is little to no evidence available concerning the bacteria’s role in the process (Skelton et al., 2016). Microbial …
Modern Day Teleology, Brianna Cunningham
Modern Day Teleology, Brianna Cunningham
Quaerens Deum: The Liberty Undergraduate Journal for Philosophy of Religion
This paper seeks to explain a modern day universe theory derived from Teleology, namely: Intelligent Design, under which Irreducible Complexity and Fine-Tuning fall. By virtue of being derivatives of Teleology, both of these maintain the idea that things are evolving toward a certain end for a certain purpose. Through detailed definitions and examples, it is clear that these theories support each other; the astounding specificity needed for life on earth virtually requires an Intelligent Designer. The paper then explores counter explanations for this seeming impossibility, such as the Anthropic Principle Objection, Unique Universe, and the Multiverse. Each of these theories, …

Biofuels are a form of renewable energy derived from living matter, typically plants. The push for biofuels began in order to decrease the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) released into the atmosphere, as biofuels are essentially carbon neutral. The idea is the same amount of CO2 the plants took in to perform photosynthesis will then be released in the burning of the biofuels. Algae is an excellent source of biofuels because it grows quickly and is versatile in terms of the type of fuel it can produce. The two most common mechanisms for algae growth are heterotrophic or photoautotrophic. Heterotrophically …
Investigation Of Parasympathetic Effects Of Lavender Essential Oil In Humans, Haakon Robert Nelson, Rachel Ann Burkhart, Daniel Morin, Nicole Grace Weissenfluh, Michael R. Korn
Investigation Of Parasympathetic Effects Of Lavender Essential Oil In Humans, Haakon Robert Nelson, Rachel Ann Burkhart, Daniel Morin, Nicole Grace Weissenfluh, Michael R. Korn
Montview Journal of Research & Scholarship
The purpose of this study will be to investigate the claim that administration of lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) essential oil (topically, orally, and/or respiratorily) produces a relaxative effect in human subjects. This investigation will theoretically be conducted in two stages. Stage one will focus primarily on determining the presence of therapeutic effects and the relative effectiveness of lavender in several application modalities. Stage two will proceed based on findings from stage one. If significant parasympathetic effects are observed in relation to one or more of the lavender oil modalities described above, a more focused investigation will be conducted in stage two …
Weathering The End Times, Donald W. Holdridge Sr.
Weathering The End Times, Donald W. Holdridge Sr.
Eruditio Ardescens
“Weathering the End Times” first addresses some of the major arguments for and against man-caused Climate Change, and then portrays where the various elements of Christendom fall within this debate. It goes on to examine the prophetic Scriptures that relate to the environments of the Tribulation, Millennial Kingdom and Eternal State, concluding that God-caused Climate Change is what believers truly need to focus on.
Wilderness Beauty: A Means To Resolve Volitional Doubt, Brian T. Scalise
Wilderness Beauty: A Means To Resolve Volitional Doubt, Brian T. Scalise
Eleutheria: John W. Rawlings School of Divinity Academic Journal
Doubt is often part of Christian spiritual life. Matured doubt will influence the will (the volition) so as to keep the Christian doubter from acting like a Christian or even desiring the Christian life. This essay seeks to construct a theory designed to engage and help resolve volitional doubt by use of wilderness beauty. This theory incorporates three areas of study—Land and Leisure Management, Abraham Maslow’s metamotivation theory, and Jonathan Edwards' aesthetic theology—to demonstrate the uniqueness and usefulness of wilderness beauty for resolving volitional doubt. Subsequent to the construction of the theory, practical suggestions for its application are given.
