Diptera Pupipara From Bats Of Two Large Eastern Mediterranean Islands, Crete And Cyprus, Martin Sevcík, Petr Benda, Radek Kris Lucan

Turkish Journal of Zoology

This paper presents a review of records of bat flies (families Nycteribiidae and Streblidae) from Crete and Cyprus, based on new findings and published data. Seven species representing 4 genera belonging to the family Nycteribiidae and 1 species from the family Streblidae from 5 bat species in Crete are reported, and 7 Nycteribiidae species (4 genera) and 1 Streblidae species from 9 bat species in Cyprus are reported. The bat flies Nycteribia latreillii (Leach, 1817), Basilia mongolensis nudior Hürka 1972, Penicillidia conspicua Speiser, 1900, P. dufourii Westwood, 1835, and Brachytarsina flavipennis Macquart, 1851 are reported from Crete for the first …

Comparison Of Geographic Variations In Typhlops Vermicularis (Merrem, 1820) (Ophidia: Typhlopidae) From The Iranian Plateau With Turkey And Turkmenistan, Mohadeseh Afroosheh, Nasrullah Rastegar_Pouyani, Seyed Kamran Ghoreishi, Haji Gholi Kami

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Typhlops vermicularis (Merrem, 1820) is one of the cosmopolitan species of the genus Typhlops that occupies a vast range of different localities from North Africa to western Afghanistan. In this study, different populations of T. vermicularis were investigated to clarify if there was any degree of geographic variation in this taxon throughout the studied range. For this purpose, 103 specimens of this taxon belonging to 12 populations from all over Iran, Turkey, and Turkmenistan were studied. Morphometric characters were examined by ANOVA and principal component analysis. Results showed that despite the vast distribution range of this species, there is no …

Distribution And Ecology Of Ostracoda (Crustacea) From Troughs In Turkey, Okan Külköylüoğlu, Derya Akdemi̇r, Necmetti̇n Sari, Mehmet Yavuzatmaca, Ceren Oral, Eli̇f Başak Jan 2013

Distribution And Ecology Of Ostracoda (Crustacea) From Troughs In Turkey, Okan Külköylüoğlu, Derya Akdemi̇r, Necmetti̇n Sari, Mehmet Yavuzatmaca, Ceren Oral, Eli̇f Başak

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Troughs are artificially transformed natural springs, underground waters, or related habitats. Some effects of such transformation are mentioned in a few studies, but there has been no extensive study on species composition and diversity in troughs. To contribute to the knowledge on the ostracods in troughs, we examined ostracod composition and diversity in 105 troughs from 6 provinces (Bolu, Erzincan, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, Ordu, Van) in Turkey. The troughs were randomly visited between the years 2006 and 2010. A total of 32 ostracod species and a mean number of 2.16 species per trough were found. The most common 4 species (Heterocypris …

Depth-Related Gradient Of Soft-Bottom Crustacean Distribution Along The Cilician Shelf, Erhan Mutlu, Mehmet Beti̇l Ergev Jan 2013

Depth-Related Gradient Of Soft-Bottom Crustacean Distribution Along The Cilician Shelf, Erhan Mutlu, Mehmet Beti̇l Ergev

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Distribution of crustaceans in 3 transects (including depths of 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, and 200 m) of oligotrophic soft bottoms of the Levantine Sea shelf located near Kumkuyu, Limonlu, and Erdemli was studied in 2000 to show its association with depth-dependent environmental parameters in representative months of each season (winter, spring, summer, and autumn). A total of 90 crustacean species was found; species richness was highest in winter and autumn and between 50 and 100 m in depth. There was a peak value in abundances in the warm season and at a depth interval of 10 to 50 m, …

Reevaluation Of The Taxonomic Status Of Sand Boas Of The Genus Eryx (Daudin, 1803) (Serpentes: Boidae) In Northeastern Iran, Naeimeh Eskandarzadeh, Jamshid Darvish, Eskandar Rastegar Pouyani, Fereshteh Ghassemzadeh Jan 2013

Reevaluation Of The Taxonomic Status Of Sand Boas Of The Genus Eryx (Daudin, 1803) (Serpentes: Boidae) In Northeastern Iran, Naeimeh Eskandarzadeh, Jamshid Darvish, Eskandar Rastegar Pouyani, Fereshteh Ghassemzadeh

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Based on the most comprehensive work on Iranian snakes to date, 4 species of the boid snakes of the genus Eryx (Daudin, 1803), E. tataricus (Lichtenstein, 1823), E. miliaris (Pallas, 1773), E. elegans (Gray, 1849), and E. jaculus (Linnaeus, 1758), have been reported from northeastern Iran. In this study, the distribution, morphological characters, and taxonomic status of the genus Eryx in northeastern Iran are reviewed. Four metric and 9 meristic characters were studied in 47 specimens belonging to various populations of Eryx in different parts of Khorasan provinces. Descriptions of the characters of the species of Eryx in northeastern Iran …
