Effects Of Time Of Application Of Glyphosate In The Control Of Johnsongrass, Marlin Moody Dec 1976

Effects Of Time Of Application Of Glyphosate In The Control Of Johnsongrass, Marlin Moody

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Investigations were conducted to determine the effects of the herbicide glyphosate and its time of application on the control of johnsongrass.

Johnsongrass plots were divided into areas designated undisturbed, spring plowed, and clipped. These areas were compared to determine differences in control of johnsongrass when using glyphosate with different management procedures. Glyphosate was applied at weekly intervals and treatment effects were statistically analyzed. There were three replications of each treatment.

It appears from the results that:

  1. Glyphosate kills approximately 100% of the johnsongrass topgrowth regardless of the application date.

  2. Height of the johnsongrass plant at the time of glyphosate application …

Evaluation Of Glyphosate In No-Till Double Crop Soybeans Using Varying Volumes & Pressures, Charles Rogers Dec 1976

Evaluation Of Glyphosate In No-Till Double Crop Soybeans Using Varying Volumes & Pressures, Charles Rogers

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

No-tillage production of crops has developed and become widespread since the late 1950/s. No-till is dependent upon the use of broad spectrum herbicides to kill weeds already growing at planting time. Until recently, this has almost exclusively been paraquat (1,1'-dimethy1-4,4'-bipyridinium ion). Glyphosate [N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine] is a new herbicide which has great potential for use in no -tillage production.

Soybeans (Glycine max L.) were planted in the stubble after wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) was harvested. All plots received applications of the residual herbicides alachlor [2-chioro-2',6'-diethyl-N-(methoxymethyl)acetanilide] and linuron [3-(3,4-dichlorophenv1)-1-methoxy-1-methylurea]. Each plot also received either paraquat or glyphosate or was designated as …

Results from 1976 Trials on Wheat. Rates of nitrogen on wheat - soil test. In this, the second year of this programme, 49 sites were selected and soil sampled during February-March. Forty six of these trials consisted of four replications and the other three had three replications and all reps were soil sampled separately. In each rep. of the 46 trials. 20 samples were taken to 10 cm depth with pogo stick samplers. In the.other three trials 30 samples per rep. were taken. In addition, from three holes at random across each trial, bulk samples were obtained from the 0-15, …

Protecting Agriculture In 1976 : Three Sides Of An Apb Campaign, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

A quick look at three areas in which the A.P.B. are working with landholders to protect Western Australia from invasion.

Protecting our agriculture and wildlife is not only the APB's job— it is very much the community's job also. Any suspect birds or plants must be reported immediately to the Agriculture Protection Board.

1976 Sunflower-Safflower Irrigated Variety Trial 1976-1977, G J. Parlevliet

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

In 1975/76 two varieties of sunflower, Hysun 10 and Hysun 20, as well as Safflower (Gila) were grown in a large alternative crop demonstration. Results were sufficiently good to warrant more and closer examination. This led to the present variety trial using varieties suggested by Mr. M. Poole. The aim was to evaluate six sunflower varieties and one safflower. The work was carried out in the light of reduced profitability of peas, beans and some fruit crops. This results in a number of growers having irrigation water and equipment under-employed. Other farmers are after a crop which will give them …

Trials in Progress. Only four grazing trials were continued in 1976. The pasture species and management trial at Moora (68M023) required a disproportionate amount of available work time. About 6 man-months were spent in completing the fencing, repairing and modifying the water system and increasing the working efficiency of the experiment. Sheep were reintroduced to the trial early in June. New Records Of Native And Introduced Plants From Nebraska, Steven P. Churchill, Robert B. Kaul, David M. Sutherland

Transactions of the Nebraska Academy of Sciences and Affiliated Societies

Recent field work in Nebraska by staff of the University of Nebraska Herbarium has produced a number of records of previously uncollected specimens and has confirmed the presence of species collected only a few times long ago. Some of the records are of American species which are indigenous to Nebraska or which have recently spread to the state, while other records are of foreign species which are thoroughly established in the wild. Some of these are potentially serious weeds, though none have reached that stage yet.

All specimens cited are deposited in the University Herbarium in Nebraska Hall, Lincoln, except …
