Antibiotic Resistance Profile Of Enterococcus Faecium Andenterococcus Faecalis Isolated From Broiler Cloacal Samples, Ni̇lgün Ünal, Şi̇nasi̇ Aşkar, Murat Yildirim

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The present study was performed to isolate and identify Enterococcus spp. from broiler cloacal samples to species level, to determine their resistance patterns to various antibiotics, and to detect vancomycin resistance genes. Cloacal samples of broilers collected from slaughterhouses were inoculated in Slanetz and Bartley agars with and without vancomycin (6 μg/mL). Antibiotic resistance/susceptibility testing of the isolated and identified enterococci was performed by using the disk diffusion test. Multiplex PCR was used to identify the species and to detect vancomycin resistance genes. The majority of the isolated enterococci was Enterococcus faecium (60.43%, n = 142) and Enterococcus faecalis (33.62%, …

Antimicrobial Resistance Profiles And Virulence Factors Of Escherichia Colio157 Collected From A Poultry Processing Plant, Harun Hizlisoy, Serhat Al, Nurhan Ertaş Onmaz, Yeli̇z Yildirim, Zafer Gönülalan, Kadi̇r Semi̇h Gümüşsoy

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aims of this study were to investigate the presence of Escherichia coli O157 and to determine the antibiotic susceptibility of isolates in different poultry-originated materials. In total 300 samples of chicken carcass swabs (n = 50), chicken feces (n = 50), gizzard (n = 50), liver (n = 50), water in the final scald tank (n = 50), and equipment such as tables, conveyers, and knives (n = 50) were used as materials. Overall, 45 E. coli isolates were obtained from the 300 poultry samples. However, 13 (4.3%) of the samples were identified as E. coli O157 including 3 …

Producer Opinions On Antibiotic Use In The Beef Industry, T. Lee, C. D. Reinhardt, E. F. Schwandt, D. U. Thomson

Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Reports

Antibiotic use in the beef industry is of increasing interest to consumers and has become a point of discussion for producers, veterinarians, and professional scientists in recent years. With the vast amount of information available on the internet and social media, consumers are becoming more knowledgeable about beef production practices and the use of antibiotics in the food animal industries. Furthermore, scientists have devoted a large amount of time and money to research to investigate consumer opinions and perspectives about management practices used in food animal production. However, many of these investigations fail to include the opinions and perspectives of …
