Vincristine sulfate is one of the most effective chemical agents used in canine transmissible venereal tumor (CTVT) chemotherapy. Its therapeutic effectiveness is pronounced and significant at the beginning of treatment. The present study was designed to investigate vincristine sulfate treatment and the relationship between CTVT tumor regression and apoptosis [estimated by TdT-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL)], galectin-3 (H-160), Bcl-2 (N-9), and lectin [EEL (B-135), GSL I (L-1100), and RCA I (BA-0084)] expression using immunohistochemical staining in 20 bitches with naturally occurring CTVTs. Evaluation was semiquantitatively performed by HSCORE values using light microscopy. All observed staining was intracytoplasmic and increased …

A 5-year-old mixed-breed dog presenting with diffuse lesions was diagnosed with cutaneous plasmacytoma. Sites where tumors occurred most often involved the skin of the facial areas, as well as that of the shoulder, neck, and back of the body. No systemic findings were present in spite of a significant enlargement of the lesions. The tumors varied in diameter, the largest being 5-10 cm. Tissue samples obtained from tumoral masses were fixed in 10% formalin, processed routinely, embedded in paraffin, cut into sections of 4-5 µm, and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. To determine the nature of the tumoral cells, kappa …

Immunohistochemical Distribution Of Glutathione Peroxidase And Its Gene Expression Via Rt-Pcr In The Liver Tissue Of Melatonin-Administered Mice, Serap Koral Taşçi, Nurhayat Gülmez Jan 2014

Immunohistochemical Distribution Of Glutathione Peroxidase And Its Gene Expression Via Rt-Pcr In The Liver Tissue Of Melatonin-Administered Mice, Serap Koral Taşçi, Nurhayat Gülmez

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of exogenous administration of melatonin, which is a strong antioxidant agent, on the gene expression of glutathione peroxidase, which is one of the antioxidant enzymes, in the livers of mice and also to examine the immunohistochemical localization of the enzyme. The 24 male Swiss albino mice used in the study were divided into 3 groups: experimental (n = 8), sham (n = 8), and control (n = 8). A 10 mg/kg dose of melatonin was administered intraperitoneally to the experimental group for 4 weeks. Only ethanol and a serum physiological …

Immunohistochemical Localization Of Transforming Growth Factor Beta 2 And Gene Expression Using Real-Time Pcr In Capsaicin-Administered Rat Testis During Puberty, Gökhan Nur, Mümtaz Nazli, Sevda Eli̇ş Yildiz Jan 2014

Immunohistochemical Localization Of Transforming Growth Factor Beta 2 And Gene Expression Using Real-Time Pcr In Capsaicin-Administered Rat Testis During Puberty, Gökhan Nur, Mümtaz Nazli, Sevda Eli̇ş Yildiz

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of capsaicin on the testis distribution of transforming growth factor beta 2 (TGF\beta2) and gene expression using real-time PCR in pubescent rats. In this study, rats were divided into 3 groups: capsaicin (CAP), sham, and control. The CAP group was injected with 1 mg/kg doses of capsaicin (10% ethanol and 1% Tween in an 80% distilled water mixture) subcutaneously every day for a period of 1 week. The sham group was injected with a solution of 10% ethanol and 1% Tween in a mixture of 80% distilled water and nothing …

Immunohistochemical Distribution Of Glucagon -, Insulin -, Somatostatin -, Gastrin-,And Serotonin-Containing Cells In The Pancreas Of The Van Cat, Turan Karaca, Adem Kara, Nejdet Şi̇mşek, Sema Uslu, Deni̇z Teki̇ner, Meci̇t Yörük Jan 2014

Immunohistochemical Distribution Of Glucagon -, Insulin -, Somatostatin -, Gastrin-,And Serotonin-Containing Cells In The Pancreas Of The Van Cat, Turan Karaca, Adem Kara, Nejdet Şi̇mşek, Sema Uslu, Deni̇z Teki̇ner, Meci̇t Yörük

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The regional distribution, relative frequency, and appearance of glucagon (A-cell)-, insulin (B-cell)-, somatostatin (D-cell)-, gastrin (G-cell)-, and serotonin (EC-cell)-secreting cells in the endocrine and exocrine pancreas of Van cats were examined using the immunohistochemistry method. Glucagon immunopositive A-cells were principally found in the central region of the islets of Langerhans, while insulin immunopositive B-cells were located in the periphery of the pancreatic islets. Moreover, several A- and B-cells were observed as only single cells or clusters of 2 to 3 immunopositive cells in the exocrine parenchyma and the pancreatic duct epithelium. Somatostatin and gastrin immunopositive reactivities were negligible in the …

Immunohistochemical Localization Of Glutathione Peroxidase 1 Enzyme And Its Gene Expression By Rt-Pcr In The Liver Tissue Of Healthy And Diabetic Mice, Turgay Deprem, Nurhayat Gülmez Jan 2014

Immunohistochemical Localization Of Glutathione Peroxidase 1 Enzyme And Its Gene Expression By Rt-Pcr In The Liver Tissue Of Healthy And Diabetic Mice, Turgay Deprem, Nurhayat Gülmez

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The purpose of this study is to examine the gene expression level of glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPx1) in the liver of healthy and diabetic mice, its localization in the tissue, and structural changes in the liver. In this study, 36 Swiss albino mice were divided into 3 groups: experimental (diabetic) (n = 15), sham (n = 15), and control (n = 6). Streptozotocin (100 mg/kg) was intraperitoneally administered to mice in the experimental group. While the gene expression level of GPx1 was determined using the RT-PCR method, its localization in the liver was determined using an immunohistochemical method. The GPx1 …
