UAES Bulletins

Project 179 of the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station - "A Study of the Agricultural Resources of Utah and their Utilization" - was set up in April 1936 as a state-wide project. The object of this project was to measure by areas the basic agricultural resources of the state and to translate-the information collected into a program of more efficient use. The more specific objectives were: (1) classification of agricultural lands of Utah according to present and potential productivity and use; (2) determination of the net productive area of agricultural lands and water supply now available, or which may be developed; …

Bulletin No. 237 - Panguitch Livestock Experimental Farm Progress Report, B. F. Hulme

UAES Bulletins

The Panguitch Experimental Livestock Farm is located three miles north of Panguitch, the county seat of Garfield County. Prior to 1909 it was held by the United States as an Indian school. In 1909 the United States Congress transferred title to the State of Utah. Two years later, in 1911 , the Utah Legislature decided that this property should "be used as an experiment station in connection with the Agricultural College of Utah ...", and control was vested in the Board of Trustees of the Utah State Agricultural College.

Bulletin No. 230 - San Juan County Experimental Farm: Progress Report, 1925-30, Inclusive, James H. Eagar, A. F. Bracken Jun 1931

Bulletin No. 230 - San Juan County Experimental Farm: Progress Report, 1925-30, Inclusive, James H. Eagar, A. F. Bracken

UAES Bulletins

San Juan County, located in the southeast corner of the state, has a dry-farm area of approximately 600,000 acres extending from Monticello 26 miles south to Blanding and 6 miles north to Peter's Hill and stretching from the Blue Mountains east 30 miles to the Colorado line. One-fourth to one-third of this area is covered with timber consisting mainly of pinion pine, oak brush, and juniper commonly called cedar. Both the juniper and pinion are of value as fuel and building material, and the juniper has an additional value for fence posts. While small areas have been cleared of timber …

Bulletin No. 213 - Food Habits Of Utah Farm Families, Almeda Perry Brown Jul 1929

Bulletin No. 213 - Food Habits Of Utah Farm Families, Almeda Perry Brown

UAES Bulletins

This report is merely an attempt to set forth the findings of the investigation without making claim to their being conclusive except for the families included in the study. While the study was carried into a relatively large portion of the state, the records are too few in number for any claim to be made that they represent community food conditions. It is believed, however, that the records which form the basis of this report are representative of the food situation in the homes from which they come.

Bulletin No. 184 - A Farm-Management Study Of The Great Salt Lake Valley, George Stewart May 1923

Bulletin No. 184 - A Farm-Management Study Of The Great Salt Lake Valley, George Stewart

UAES Bulletins

This survey had for its purpose the study of farm organization in Great Salt Lake Valley. It is hoped that some conclusions may have been reached as to how to improve farming conditions. The records were taken during the summer of 1915 and consequently represent the farm business for 1914. Ordinarily the period of time that has elapsed since the records were taken would be too long to justify their being published. In view of the fact, however, that the World War began in 1914 and that its effects on the prices of farm products lasted until 1921, it is …

Circular No. 14 - Housing Farm Poultry, Byron Alder Nov 1913

Circular No. 14 - Housing Farm Poultry, Byron Alder

UAES Circulars

With the exception, perhaps, of actual starvation of the fowls themselves, there is no other factor in connection with the keeping of poultry that will affect egg production and good vigorous growth so decidedly as poor or improper methods of housing. This circular sets forth some of the essentials of a good house for Utah conditions, and offers plans of three houses in which an attempt has been made to include these essentials. The ideas and plans presented here do not represent anyone person's original work. They are a compilation of the work done on this subject by those who …

Circular No. 7 - Labor Saving Devices For The Farm Home, Leah D. Widtsoe Jun 1912

Circular No. 7 - Labor Saving Devices For The Farm Home, Leah D. Widtsoe

UAES Circulars

This paper was written for and read before the first International Congress of Farm Women held at Colorado Springs, October 17th to 21st, 1911. A few changes have been made in the manuscript and some illustrations added.

The name indicates that it is written for the progressive farmers of some means--since all labor saving devices cost more or less money. The farm home which finds it difficult to keep flour in the barrel, naturally will not be interested in $125.00 water systems--except as an ideal they may attain to some day, and ideals are always helpful. To find ways and …

Bulletin No. 39 - "Farming Irrigation" And "Orchard Irrigation", A. A. Mills, E. S. Richman May 1895

Bulletin No. 39 - "Farming Irrigation" And "Orchard Irrigation", A. A. Mills, E. S. Richman

UAES Bulletins

The greater part of the matter given under the head "Farm Irrigation" is the result of five years' work. Some of the work reported gives the results obtained in fewer seasons. A great deal of the work was planned by Prof. J. VV. Sanborn, formerly Director of the Station, while the remainder was planned by the writer. The writer, however, has had charge of every detail of all of the field work from the beginning. Some of the matter has been published before, while a goodly portion of it has never been reported. For this publication the figures have been …
