The material on which this paper is based was for the most part collected by the author in odd moments while doing other work in 1903. In all only about 400 specimens were taken. Some specimen collected by Prof. L. Bruner and Messrs. Cary and Carriker in 1902, as well as a few received from other people while in Costa Rica, were examined, all these being properly credited. Those having no collector's name after them were taken by the author. In addition to the species mentioned in the paper, quite a number of others were taken, which at present cannot …

While in Central America I collected a number of species of Prosopis (descriptions to appear soon) which were typical representatives of that genus in every way. Scattered through this collection were a number of bees, very Prosopis-like, but possessing a truncated and appendiculated marginal cell and otherwise corresponding to Ashmead 's description of the genus Pasiphae, previously known only from the southern Andean region. In Trans. Am. Ent. Soc. XXIX, p. 186, Cockerell says "Mr. Vachal remarks that this has a distinct tibial pollen brush,. and cannot go with the Prosopidae. It appears to be a Colletid with only two …

The codling moth continues to be the most s serious pest of the Utah horticulturist and was therefore made the main subject of investigation by the Entomological Department for the season of 1904.
In spite of the immense amount of work that ha been done on this subject by various entomologists in this and other countries, several vital points still remain unknown and many more that have been worked out for other localities must be verified and adapted to our conditions.

Several years ago Mr. H. D. Chipman collected insects on the Island of Trinidad, British West Indies, and the writer secured a fairly complete set of the Orthoptera taken by him. Since that time a few additional forms have been obtained from G. E. Tryhane, of St. Anne's, Trinidad, and others from W. E. Broadway, of St. George's Grenada, who formerly collected on Trinidad. Altogether upwards of one hundred (112) species have thus been accumulated and form the basis of this paper.

The present paper is based primarily on the extensive collection obtained from Mr. W. T. Foster, of Sapucay, Paraguay, and now belonging to the United States National Museum. In addition, the writer hns personally collected in that country, besides having purchased several small collections from that section of South America. To inake the paper as complete as possible, Giglio-Tos's papers have been consulted, and all the forms not represented in the collections studied have been included.

For a number of years I have been studying the spermatogenesis of Papilio rutulus (pl. 12, fig. 1) not ,with any one single problem especially in view, but with the aim of ascertaining the entire life history of its sperm cell, its various phases of development, its mode of growth and differentiation, the history of its several parts, and its relation to the organism.

Im vorigen Jahrgange dieser Zeitschrift., p. 4. veroffentlichte ich eine neue HaIictus - Art unter dem Namen H. truncatus. Da dieser Name schon 1901 von Ch. Robertson fur H. similis Smith, eine nordamerikanische Spezies, eingefuhrt wurde (Canad. Entom. Bd. 33, p. 230), so muss die von mir beschriebene Art neu benannt werden. Wegen des gekornelten Raumes neben dem Mittelfelde des Mittelsegmentes nenne ich sie H. granulosus.
