Synthesis Of New Aliphatic Pseudo-Branched Polyester Co-Polymers For Biomedical Applications, Zachary Shaw Jul 2019

Synthesis Of New Aliphatic Pseudo-Branched Polyester Co-Polymers For Biomedical Applications, Zachary Shaw

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

In this study, a hyperbranched polyester co-polymer was designed using a proprietary monomer and diethylene glycol or triethylene glycol as monomers. The synthesis was carried out using standard melt polymerization technique and catalyzed by p-Tolulenesulfonic acid. The progress of the reaction was monitored with respect to time and negative pressure, with samples being subjected to standard characterization protocols. The resulting polymers were purified using the solvent precipitation method and characterized using various chromatographic and spectroscopic methods including GPC, MALDI-TOF, and NMR. We have observed polymers with a molecular weight of 29,643 kDa and 33,996 kDa, which is ideal to be …

Molecularly Targeted Nanomedicine: Role Of Hsp90 Inhibitor And Sophorolipids In The Treatment Of Lung Cancer, Shuguftha Naz Ms May 2017

Molecularly Targeted Nanomedicine: Role Of Hsp90 Inhibitor And Sophorolipids In The Treatment Of Lung Cancer, Shuguftha Naz Ms

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Lactonic sophorolipids (LSL) are a class of enzymatically modified glycolipids known to have HDAC inhibition activity and anticancer properties. Ganetespib (GT), an Hsp90 inhibitor, is known for its superior antitumor activity in several K-RAS mutant Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) cells. In this study, a new anti-oxidant nanoplatform is formulated using the combination of these two drugs, LSL and GT, in order to target both HDAC inhibition and Hsp90 signaling pathways in NSCLC. Nanoceria (NC) is an excellent redox platform will be specifically used to supplement the therapeutic potency of these drugs in the effective treatment of NSCLC. We hypothesized that …

Facile Synthesis And Characterization Of Graphene Nanoribbons/Polypyrrole Nanocomposite, Johara A. Al Dream May 2017

Facile Synthesis And Characterization Of Graphene Nanoribbons/Polypyrrole Nanocomposite, Johara A. Al Dream

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Carbon is present in various forms such as coal, carbon nanotubes, graphene, diamond etc. Among various forms, carbon nanotubes and graphene have attracted considerable research attention due to their high thermal stability, high mechanical strength and electrical conduction. These properties largely depend on synthesis procedure. In this work, we synthesized graphene nanoribbons using carbon nanotubes for nanocomposites with polypyrrole. Chemical oxidation was used to unzip the carbon nanotubes. These graphene nanoribbons were used to fabricate nanocomposites with polypyrrole for energy storage applications. The synthesized nanocomposites were structurally and electrochemically characterized.

The structural characterization was performed using X-ray diffraction, FT-IR, SEM, …

The Cloning And Expression Of Histone Genes From The Archaeal Organisms Pyrococcus Furiosus And Methanobrevibacter Smithii In The Polycistronic Vector Pst44., Doha Abdullah Alqurashi Jan 2013

The Cloning And Expression Of Histone Genes From The Archaeal Organisms Pyrococcus Furiosus And Methanobrevibacter Smithii In The Polycistronic Vector Pst44., Doha Abdullah Alqurashi

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

The Euryarcheota branch of the Archaea contains histone proteins that are highly homologous to eukaryotic histones. Virtually all species within this group have two histone proteins (designated H1A and H2B). These proteins contain a canonical histone fold motif that stabilizes homo- and perhaps hetero-dimeric interactions. Molecular modeling calculations previously carried out in our laboratory revealed that both homo and hetero-dimers of histones from two euryarchaeal organisms are equally plausible. We have also shown through molecular modeling that inter-species hetero-dimers are structurally identical to existing solution structures archaeal histones. An interesting question that needs to be addressed is whether homo- and …
