This report provides a description of the landforms, soils and vegetation of Rottnest Island. In addition, it provides a discussion of the relative capability of each of the landforms of the island to sustain various forms of development. The primary objective of this work is to direct development into areas of high capability (low risk of land degradation) in preference to areas of lower capability (higher risk of land degradation).
Rottnest Island is located approximately 30 km west of Perth. The proximity of the island to the capital city of Western Australia, its warm Mediterranean climate and the subsequent likelihood …

Bird Distributional And Breeding Records For Southeastern Idaho, Utah, And Adjacent Regions, Clayton M. White, Herbert H. Frost, Dennis L. Shirley, G. Merrill Webb, Richard D. Porter
Great Basin Naturalist
New distributional records or the status for 33 species of birds that have occurred within Utah, adjacent southeastern portions of Idaho, or along the border of states surrounding Utah are reviewed. Four species, the Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis), Common Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus), Great-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus mexicanus), and Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula), represent new Utah breeding records established within the past decade, and they are commented upon. One other, the Black-tailed Gnatcatcher (Polioptila melanura), may be breeding in Utah. The Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) may likewise be breeding in southeastern …

Agriculture reports
The Pilbara coastal region is an area which will have increased human pressure both for work and recreation. In recent years, rapid expansion of townsites along the coast has meant that areas which were once stable have come under threat. Conservation measures will be needed to protect the coastline, and to ensure that the beauty of the coastal landscape: an be enjoyed by future generations.

Jamaican Blue-Green Algae Collections Of J.C. Strickland, W. John Hayden
Biology Faculty Publications
Professor John C. Strickland (1915-1980) devoted much of his life to teaching biology, botany, and phycology at the University of Richmond. Throughout his academic career he maintained a keen interest in the Myxophyceae, or blue-green algae, studying their culture, cytology, and taxonomy (Drouet & Strickland, 1942; Strickland, 1940, 1946). Most of his collections of these and other algae were made in Virginia and are housed in the herbarium maintained by the Department of Biology, University of Richmond. However, he also made four trips to Jamaica in the years 1966-1971 before his health deteriorated to the extent that field work, and …
