Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study aimed to investigate the effect of vitamin D administered 24 h after calving of dairy cows on calcium-phosphorus metabolism, carbohydrate, lipid and liver metabolism, and inflammatory response. Twenty multiparous Holstein cows were randomly assigned to the experimental (EG) and control group (CG). The EG received 5,000,000 IU vitamin D3 (5 mL) 24 h after parturition intramuscularly, whereas the CG group received 5 mL of 0.9% NaCl. Blood samples were taken 24 h after parturition before treatments and at the 3rd, 7th, 14th, and 28th days of lactation. Serum NEFA, BHBA, haptoglobin, serum amyloid A (SAA), ceruloplasmin, calcium, phosphorus, …

Different challenges are being applied in the poultry industry in order to protect animal health and to increase immunity and production. The supplementation of microbial phytase is essential in terms of both reducing the inorganic phytase rate and contributing to the absorption of other minerals. In this study, a newly isolated microbial phytase was added at different concentrations to the diet together with calcium (Ca$^{2+}$) and available phosphorus (AP), and the effects of this supplementation on intestinal absorption capacity and Ca$^{2+}$ binding capacity were investigated via morphological measurements and immunohistochemical examination of the duodenum and ileum. For this purpose, 90 …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The present study was conducted to investigate plasma macrominerals (Ca, P, Na, K, and Mg) in adult male and female quails according to different body weights in four close-bred flocks of Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) maintained at the Avian Research and Training Center of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. The results showed that mean plasma Na concentration was significantly (P < 0.05) different in female quails with respect to body size categories. The interaction between flocks and body size for plasma Ca levels was significant (P < 0.05) in both sexes of quails, whereas plasma Na was significant (P < 0.05) in female quails. The mean plasma P and K levels in imported and local flocks of Japanese quails were significantly (P < 0.05) different in female quails, whereas plasma Mg was significantly (P < 0.05) different in male quails. However, with respect to body size categories, plasma P, K, and Mg were significantly (P < 0.05) different in female quails only. The interaction between flocks and body size was significant for K and P in female quails and for plasma Mg levels in both sexes of quails.

Effects Of Deboning Methods On Chemical Composition And Some Properties Of Beef And Turkey Meat, Meltem Serdaroğlu, Gülen Turp Yildiz, Neri̇man Bağdatlioğlu

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The objective of this research was to compare some chemical and physical characteristics of mechanically deboned and hand deboned turkey meat and beef. Samples were analyzed for proximate composition, cholesterol, TBA, calcium and iron contents, hunter colour parameters and fatty acid composition. Deboning method affected chemical composition of beef and turkey meat. Mechanical deboning resulted higher cholesterol values and calcium and iron content. In hand deboned turkey meat the most abundant fatty acids were C16:0, C18:1 and C18:2. Mechanical deboning process was increased the percent of C18:1, C18:2 and C18:3 in turkey meat. C16:0, C18:0 and C18:1 were the major …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was carried out to determine the effect of the supplementation of microbial phytase in broiler feeds based on corn and soybean meal, to investigate its effect on broiler performance, dressing percentage and bone mineralization. In this experiment, 2000 1-day-old Ross 308 broiler chicks were used in five groups, each consisting of 400 chicks. Two of the groups were chosen as control groups (positive and negative), and the others were used as experimental groups. Each treatment group was divided into four replicates of 100 chicks. The first control group was fed a diet containing inorganic phosphorous but not phytase; …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Fish were exposed to three different sublethal doses in order to determine the effects of Cypermethrin on some biochemical parameters (Ca-Calcium, P-Phosphorus, Na-Sodium and TP-Total Protein) of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). After 15 days exposure, Ca and P decreased, while TP and Na took various values depending on the doses of synthetic pyrethroid.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of this trial was to investigate the effects of chlorine and phosphate salts in the diet, and 2 different levels of diet Ca,on the acid-based balance, growth performance and development of tibial dyscondroplasia (TD)in broiler chicks. Three hundred Ross X PM_3, 1-day-old broiler chicks were used during the 5-week trial.Chicks were divided into 6 groups. Three groups (2 experimental and 1 control)were given diets with Ca levels near the bottom limit of the normal requirement (starter 0.90%and grower 0.80%)and 3 groups (2 experimental and one control)were given diets with higher Ca levels (starter 1.25%and grower 1.15%). No anionic salt …

Effect Of Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium And Potassium Levels In Seminal Plasma Of Holstein Bulls On Spermatological Characters, Seyfetti̇n Gür, Eşref Demi̇rci̇

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was conducted to investigate the levels calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium in the seminal plasma of bulls, semen volume, sperm motility, sperm concentration and the correlation between these parametres. Five Holstein bulls constituted the material of this study. Twenty ejaculates were collected from each bull and the spermatological characteristics of these ejaculates were determined. Then, seminal plasma was separated from 3ml semen from each ejaculate by centrifugation at 1500g for 20 min at 4 °C. Calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium concentrations in seminal plasma were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The average values for calcium, magnesium, sodium and …

Use Of The First Carbonification Studge Of Sugar Industry As Calcium Source In Quail Diets, Ni̇hat Özen, Emi̇n Arat

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The use of first carbonification sludge (waste-clay), a waste product of sugar industry, was investigated as a calcium source in quail diets in two consequtive trials. In the first experiment 1260 of 10-day old Japanese quails were used in a period of 45 days, while 432 quails were utilized during the following 24-weeks laying experiment. Ground marble was replaced by the sludge in the experimental diets to supplement the Ca requirements at the rates of 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 %, respectively. Variance analysis of data obtained from the growth experiment indicated that there were no significant differences …

Effects Of Different Concentrations Of Monensin On The Contractilitychanges Of Guinea-Pig Papillary Muscle, İsmail Meral Jan 1998

Effects Of Different Concentrations Of Monensin On The Contractilitychanges Of Guinea-Pig Papillary Muscle, İsmail Meral

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Effects of different concentrations of monensin on contraction amplitude (CA) which is the contraction force (CF), initial contraction velocity (ICV), average contraction velocity (ACV) and initial relaxation velocity (IRV) of guinea-pig papillary muscle were studied by using male guinea-pigs. Hearts were removed and papillary muscles were isolated from the right ventricles. The muscles were then attached to a capacitance transducer, electrically connected to a Beckman recorder and the isometric contractions of guinea-pig papillary muscles were recorded. The five hours of measurement in this experiment were divided into five periods (T0 was equilibration, T1, T2, T3 and T4 were respectively one, …
