Trace Mineral Leaching From Equine Compost, Ashley L. Fowler, Mieke Brummer-Holder, Karl A. Dawson

Animal and Food Sciences Faculty Publications

Mineral leaching from compost can be environmentally disruptive. Little information is available regarding trace mineral leaching from equine-sourced compost. The objective of this study was to quantify the mineral content and leaching potential of compost produced from feces of horses fed different amounts and forms (organic or inorganic) of trace minerals. Nine horses were fed three treatments in a 3 × 3 replicated Latin Square design. The dietary treatments were provided as a daily pellet: CON (pellet without added trace minerals), ING (added inorganic trace minerals), and ORG (added organic trace minerals). The added trace minerals were Co, Cu, Mn, …

Effects Of Selenium And Zinc Supplementation On Cadmium Toxicity In Broilers, Evangelos Zoidis, Athanasios C. Pappas, Ali Al-Waeli, Constantinos A. Georgiou, George P. Danezis, Nikos Demiris, George Zervas, Konstantinos Fegeros

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic metal regarded as an environmental pollutant. The potential ameliorative effect of simultaneous addition of Se and Zn to broilers against Cd toxicity was examined. A total of 180 as-hatched broilers were used. There were 4 replicate pens of 3 dietary treatments: T1, T2, and T3. In T1, Se, Cd, and Zn were added to a basal diet at 0.3, 0, and 100 ppm, in T2 at 0.3, 50, and 150 ppm, and in T3 at 0.5, 50, and 150 ppm respectively. Selenium, Cd, Ca, Co, Cu, Fe, Li, Mg, Mn, Sb, As, Cr, Pb, Mo, …

Evaluation Of Cellulose In Diets With And Without Added Zno On Nursery Pig Performance, J. A. Chance, M. D. Tokach, H. I. Calderón, J. C. Woodworth, J. M. Derouchey, R. D. Goodband

Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Reports

A total of 1,296 pigs (L337 × 1050; PIC, Hendersonville, TN; initially 10.6 lb) were used in a 42-d study to evaluate the addition of cellulose in diets with and without the inclusion of pharmacological levels of Zn on nursery pig growth performance. Pigs were weaned at approximately 20 d of age and randomly allotted to pens in a randomized complete block design by body weight (BW). Pens of pigs were allotted to 1 of 4 dietary treatments with 27 pigs per pen and 12 replications per treatment. Dietary treatments were arranged in a 2 × 2 factorial with main …

Effect Of Crude Protein Level And Coarse Wheat Bran On Nursery Pig Growth Performance, K. L. Batson, H. I. Calderón, M. D. Tokach, J. C. Woodworth, R. D. Goodband, S. S. Dritz, J. M. Derouchey Jan 2020

Effect Of Crude Protein Level And Coarse Wheat Bran On Nursery Pig Growth Performance, K. L. Batson, H. I. Calderón, M. D. Tokach, J. C. Woodworth, R. D. Goodband, S. S. Dritz, J. M. Derouchey

Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Reports

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of adding coarse wheat bran with reduced crude protein level in diets without pharmacological levels of zinc oxide on the growth performance and fecal dry matter of nursery pigs. Our objective was to determine if a low-crude protein diet with an added fiber source might provide similar growth performance and reduce the incidence of scours in weanling pigs compared to a typical, high-protein diet with added Zn. A total of 300 and 350 pigs (DNA 241 × 600), initially 15.4 and 13.7 lb body weight (BW), were used in Exp. 1 and …

Evaluating The Effects Of Pharmacological Levels Of Zinc Oxide, Diet Acidification And Dietary Crude Protein On Growth Performance Of Nursery Pigs, W. M. Hutchens, M. D. Tokach, S. S. Dritz, J. C. Woodworth, J. M. Derouchey, R. D. Goodband, H. I. Calderón Jan 2020

Evaluating The Effects Of Pharmacological Levels Of Zinc Oxide, Diet Acidification And Dietary Crude Protein On Growth Performance Of Nursery Pigs, W. M. Hutchens, M. D. Tokach, S. S. Dritz, J. C. Woodworth, J. M. Derouchey, R. D. Goodband, H. I. Calderón

Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Reports

A total of 360 weaned pigs (DNA 200 × 400; initially 12.9 lb BW) were used in a 42-d growth study to evaluate the effects of pharmacological levels of zinc oxide (ZnO), diet acidification, and dietary crude protein (CP) on pig performance. Pigs were weaned at approximately 21-d of age and were randomly assigned to pens (5 pigs per pen) and allotted to 1 of 8 dietary treatments with 9 pens per treatment. Experimental diets were fed from d 0 to 21 with a common diet fed from d 21 to 42. The eight treatment diets were arranged as a …
