Land Resource Survey Of Rottnest Island - An Aid To Land Use Planning, P A. Hesp, M R. Wells, B H R Ward, J R H Riches
Bulletins 4000 -
This report provides a description of the landforms, soils and vegetation of Rottnest Island. In addition, it provides a discussion of the relative capability of each of the landforms of the island to sustain various forms of development. The primary objective of this work is to direct development into areas of high capability (low risk of land degradation) in preference to areas of lower capability (higher risk of land degradation).
Rottnest Island is located approximately 30 km west of Perth. The proximity of the island to the capital city of Western Australia, its warm Mediterranean climate and the subsequent likelihood …

B799: Field Appraisal Of Resource Management Systems "Farms" Crop Yield And Quality Relationships With Soil Erosion, Paul R. Hepler, Lauren H. Long, John A. Ferwerda
Bulletins
This document presents objectives and preliminary results of the Field Appraisal of Resource Management Systems (FARMS) study. This study assumes that estimates of soil erosion using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) represent long-term rather than short- term effects. The FARMS study randomly sampled 2400 plots over a three year period, 1980-82, for: crop management, soils, conservation practices and management, crop yields, soil chemistry, and sociological data.
This report presents analyses from the 800 plots sampled in 1980. Statistics of rill and sheet soil erosion, as estimated by the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE), are presented. Data are presented for …
Swine Marketing In South Dakota: Results Of A Producer Survey, Larry Janssen, Kevin K. Weischedel
Swine Marketing In South Dakota: Results Of A Producer Survey, Larry Janssen, Kevin K. Weischedel
Economics Research Reports
South Dakota is one of the top 10 hog production states with about 3 m111ion hogs and pigs marketed and 3.2 million hogs slaughtered in the state each year. This totals 3-4 percent of the nation's hog supply. With ample supplies of available land, labor, and feed grain there is considerable potential for further growth of the South Dakota pork industry if the expansion can be based on profitable production and marketing prospects for producers. In 1980, a pork marketing study was initiated by SDSU to obtain current infonnation on: 1) Organization of hog production and marketing in South Dakota, …

B798: A Census Of Maine's Potato Production, Storage, And Packing Operation, Raymond J. Nowak, Edward F. Johnston, Alan S. Kezis
Bulletins
Both internal and external factors relating to the production and marketing of Maine potatoes continue to influence and often undermine the profitability and market position of this important agricultural industry in the State. Among these factors are the technical aspects related to commercial production, storage and packing of potatoes in Maine; the current market structure; responses by the Maine industry to market preferences; and public policies, both foreign and domestic, affecting financial conditions and promotional activities in Maine and competing production regions. The quality of Maine potatoes in produce outlets in major Eastern U.S. markets is affected by production practices, …

The 1970'S: A Decade Of Growth In South Dakota Irrigation, Donald Taylor
The 1970'S: A Decade Of Growth In South Dakota Irrigation, Donald Taylor
Economics Research Reports
South Dakota ranks twentieth in the nation in its irrigated acreage. Depending on how "irrigation" is defined, South Dakota has between 450,000 and 500,000 acres of irriqated land. About 375,000 acres has been developed under State-issued permits by private individuals and groups. An additional 66,450 acres comprise the Belle Fourche and Angostura Federal Irrigation Projects, although in any one year not all of this land is necessarily irrigated. About 52,300 acres of "dry draw, spreader" irrigation involves the intermittent backing up of water behind dams in small creeks for occasional irrigations by farmers and ranchers in the West River Region. …
