Thiamine-Induced Nitric Oxide Improves Tolerance To Boron Toxicity In Pepper Plants By Enhancing Antioxidants, Cengi̇z Kaya, Mustafa Aslan, Ferhat Uğurlar, Muhammad Ashraf

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The role of thiamine (THI)-induced nitric oxide (NO) synthesis in the improvement of tolerance to boron (B) toxicity in pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) was studied. A solution of THI (50 or 100 mg L-1) was sprayed to the foliage of pepper plants exposed to high B regime (2.0 mM H3BO3) once a week for 4 weeks. A scavenger of NO (0.1 mM), cPTIO, along with THI was sprayed once a week to ascertain whether or not endogenous NO played a role in the alleviation of B stress in pepper plants by THI. There were significant reductions in plant dry weight, …

Boron And Maturity Effects On Biochemical Parameters And Antioxidantactivity Of Pepper (Capsicum Annuum L.) Cultivars, Eleana Sarafi, Anastasios Siomos, Pavlos Tsouvaltzis, Christos Chatzissavvidis, Ioannis Therios Jan 2018

Boron And Maturity Effects On Biochemical Parameters And Antioxidantactivity Of Pepper (Capsicum Annuum L.) Cultivars, Eleana Sarafi, Anastasios Siomos, Pavlos Tsouvaltzis, Christos Chatzissavvidis, Ioannis Therios

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Pepper fruit (Capsicum annuumL.) is one of the best sources of carotenoids, carbohydrates, flavonoids, phenols, and antioxidant activity important in the human diet. The levels of bioactive compounds are variable and may be affected by cultivar, maturity stage, and boron concentration in the soil solution. A greenhouse experiment was conducted with the pepper cultivars Solario, Osho, Odysseo, and Arlequin treated with 5 boron concentrations (0.5, 1, 2.5, 5, and 10 mg B L-1) for 70 days. Fruits were sampled at 40 and 70 days and the concentration of carbohydrates, carotenoids, flavonoids, total phenols, and antioxidant activity (FRAP, DPPH) were measured. …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study examined the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), humic acid (HA), and whey (W) application on wilt disease caused by Verticillium dahliae Kleb. in tomato, pepper, and eggplant. Single, dual, and triple applications of AMF (2.5 g inocula of either Glomus mosseae or G. intraradices), HA (500 ppm), and W (50 mL kg-1) were found to improve the morphological growth and nutritional status of all three host species. Moreover, dual and triple applications reduced the severity of wilt disease caused by V. dahliae by between 40% and 70.5%. Triple application of AMF, HA, and W decreased the number …

Seed Quality, And Fatty Acid And Sugar Contents Of Pepper Seeds (Capsicum Annuum L.) In Relation To Seed Development And Drying Temperatures, İbrahi̇m Demi̇r, Azi̇z Teki̇n, Z. Aytanga Ökmen, Gamze Okçu, Burcu B. Kenanoğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was carried out in order to determine the effects of drying temperature (25, 35, and 45 °C) and the developmental stage (55, 65, 75, and 85 days after anthesis (DAA)) on germination, vigor, and the sugar (sucrose, glucose, fructose) and fatty acid contents of pepper seeds (Capsicum annuum L.) over 2 consecutive years. In seeds harvested at 75 DAA and after, seed viability and vigor were not influenced by drying at temperatures up to 45 °C. Linoleic acid (18:2) was the main fatty acid in pepper seeds, comprising 75-80% of total fatty acids. It was followed by oleic …

Methyl Bromide Alternatives For Controlling Meloidogyne Incognita In Pepper Cultivars In The Eastern Mediterranean Region Of Turkey, M. Ali̇ Söğüt, İ. Hali̇l Elekçi̇oğlu Jan 2007

Methyl Bromide Alternatives For Controlling Meloidogyne Incognita In Pepper Cultivars In The Eastern Mediterranean Region Of Turkey, M. Ali̇ Söğüt, İ. Hali̇l Elekçi̇oğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The efficacy of soil solarization in combination with Trichoderma spp. (S+Tr), dazomet (S+D 300, 400 and 500 kg ha^{-1} of dosages) and fresh chicken manure (S+CM 12.5 t ha^{-1}) as methyl bromide (MB) alternatives against root-knot nematodes on pepper cultivars was investigated in plastic greenhouses in the eastern Mediterranean Region of Turkey. Soil solarization for 6 weeks increased soil temperature by 8.4 and 7.8 °C at 10 cm soil depth in 2000 and 2001, respectively. Second stage juvenile (J2) populations of M. incognita were efficiently reduced by S + Tr, S + D300, S + D400, S + D500, S …

Salt Tolerance Of Pepper Cultivars During Germination And Seedling Growth, Ertan Yildirim, İsmai̇l Güvenç

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of salinity on the germination and emergence of pepper cultivars, and to investigate the potential for genetic salt tolerance during germination and seedling growth. Thus, seeds of 11 pepper cultivars were germinated using 0, 85, 170, and 215 mM NaCl solutions for 14 days. Germination percentage decreased with increased NaCl concentration. All cultivars germinated in all salinities, with the exception of Kandil Dolma in 215 mM NaCl. The greatest germination percentage at 215 mM of NaCl was 71% for 11-B-14. NaCl salinity at different concentrations adversely affected germination rates of the 11 …

Effects Of Some Plant Materials On Phytophthora Blight (Phytophthora Capsici Leon.) Of Pepper, Fi̇kret Demi̇rci̇, F. Sara Dolar

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Effects of dried garlic, peppermint, cabbage, lentil, alfalfa, onion, radish, and garden cress plant materials on Phytophthora blight (Phytophthora capsici Leon.) of pepper were determined, in both in vitro and in vivo conditions. Extracts of the plant materials were used in vitro. The plant materials were extracted in ethanol and were added to corn meal agar (CMA) at 5 and 10 µg ml^{-1}. The extracts of alfalfa, garlic, cabbage, and peppermint reduced colony diameter of P. capsici on corn meal agar between 3.46% and 13.73%, whereas mycelial growth of P. capsici was increased by onion, radish, garden cress, and lentil …
