Sustainable Farm Practice: Study Of Total And Soluble Phosphorus In A Poultry Farm Equipped With Heavy Use Area Protection Pads, Dover, Delaware, Gulnihal Ozbay, Raju Khatiwada, Lathadevi K. Chintapenta, Eunice F. Handy, Stacy L. Smith

Professional Agricultural Workers Journal

Poultry litter contains high concentrations of water-soluble phosphorus and is readily transported in the farm run-off. This research aims to study the efficiency of heavy use area protection (HUAP) pads in decreasing litter spillage and phosphorous run-off at a Delaware poultry facility. Soil and water samples were analyzed for pH, total phosphorous, orthophosphate, and Mehlich III phosphorous throughout 2012. It has been hypothesized that the efficiency of HUAP pads would be reduced over time. Mehlich III phosphorus ranged from 22.82-200 mg/kg at site I, and 48.17 – 1179.6 mg/kg at site II, which were greater than the optimal soil concentrations. …

The Effects Of Phosphorus Addition On Phytoavailability Of Zinc By Diffusive Gradientsin Thin Films (Dgt), Osman Sönmez, Gary Pierzynski, Cengi̇z Kaya, Sali̇h Aydemi̇r

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) have been used for the assessment of Zn phytoavailability. Phosphorus is of particular interest in soils having Zn toxicity because of the Zn-P interaction. A greenhouse study was carried out to assess the influence of different P rates on the Zn phytoavailability to sorghum-Sudan grass (Sorghum vulgare var. Sudanese) in soil systems by DGT. Soil was amended with ZnSO4 at 0, 150, 300, 600, and 1200 mg Zn kg-1 in order to create various levels of Zn phytoavailability. Phosphorus was applied to soil at 0, 100, and 200 mg P kg-1 as KH2PO4. There is growing interest in using a reduced rate of mineral fertilizer along with water-saving superabsorbent polymer (WSAP) for field crop production in arid and semiarid regions of the world. The overall objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of hydrogel applications on the phosphorus fertilizer efficiency parameter, yield, and selected physiological properties of corn (Zea mays L.) grown at different levels of water deficiency in greenhouse conditions. The experimental design consisted of 3 completely randomized blocks in a factorial arrangement, with 9 hydrogel doses (0%, 0.01%, 0.02%, 0.04%, 0.08%, 0.12%, 0.2%, 0.4%, and 0.6%), 4 phosphorus fertilizer …
