Effect Of Wetted Soil Area On Trunk Growth, Yield, And Fruit Quality Of Drip-Irrigated Sour Cherry Trees, Osman Yildirim, Hati̇ce Dumanoğlu, Nurdan Güneş, Murat Yildirim, Ahmet Aygün, Beki̇r Şan

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The effect of wetted soil area on trunk growth, yield, and fruit quality in drip-irrigated Kütahya sour cherry (Prunus cerasus L.) trees grafted on mahaleb (Prunus mahaleb L.) seedlings was investigated over 3 seasons in a semiarid zone of Central Anatolia, Turkey. Percentages of wetted soil area ranging from 8.8% to 35.6% were obtained by applying 7 treatments consisting of 1 or 2 lateral drip lines per tree row and various dripper numbers per tree. Adequate irrigation was applied to all treatments based on daily evapotranspiration values estimated by the FAO-modified Penman-Monteith equation. The highest yield was generally obtained at …

Effect Of Irrigation On Processing Tomato Yield And Antioxidant Components, Lajos Helyes, Andrea Lugasi, Zoltán Pék Jan 2012

Effect Of Irrigation On Processing Tomato Yield And Antioxidant Components, Lajos Helyes, Andrea Lugasi, Zoltán Pék

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

A 2-year (2007 and 2008) open-field experiment was conducted to study the effects of irrigation on the yield parameters and main antioxidant components (lycopene, phenolic compounds, and ascorbic acid) of processing tomato. Two different treatments were applied: some plants were regularly irrigated, and some had their irrigation cut off 30 days before harvest. Both groups were compared with a rainfed control. Daily irrigation volume was calculated from the average daily temperature to reach optimum water supply. Fruits were harvested at the red-ripe maturity stage. The irrigated plants gave a significantly higher yield, and rainfed plants showed a yield loss. Irrigation …

Rootstock Potential Of Turkish Lagenaria Siceraria Germplasm For Watermelon: Plant Growth, Yield And Quality, Fati̇h Karaca, Hali̇t Yeti̇şi̇r, İlknur Solmaz, Eli̇f Çandir, Şener Kurt, Nebahat Sari, Zehra Güler Jan 2012

Rootstock Potential Of Turkish Lagenaria Siceraria Germplasm For Watermelon: Plant Growth, Yield And Quality, Fati̇h Karaca, Hali̇t Yeti̇şi̇r, İlknur Solmaz, Eli̇f Çandir, Şener Kurt, Nebahat Sari, Zehra Güler

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The rootstock potential of 21 bottle gourds (Lagenaria siceraria) collected from the Mediterranean region (Turkey) was investigated for watermelon with regard to plant growth, yield, and fruit quality. The Crimson Tide watermelon cultivar was used as a scion and 2 commercial rootstocks (L. siceraria) were also used for comparison. In greenhouse conditions, the survival rate of grafted plants and the effect of rootstocks on plant growth were determined. The grafted plants were planted under low tunnels in early spring and the effects of the rootstocks on early yield, total yield, and fruit quality were evaluated. The survival rates of the …

Response Of Maize And Soybeans To Liming, Luka Andric, Mirta Rastija, Tihana Teklic, Vlado Kovacevic Jan 2012

Response Of Maize And Soybeans To Liming, Luka Andric, Mirta Rastija, Tihana Teklic, Vlado Kovacevic

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

A field trial with the application of 3 rates (0, 5, and 20 t ha^{-1}) of hydratized calcite (73% CaO + 2%-3% MgO + 21% H_2O) was set up in the spring of 2006. The experiment area had 3 plots of 630 m2. Each plot was divided into 4 subplots for replications. Over the next 2 years, the residual effects of liming on plant yield and nutrient uptake were investigated using maize hybrid OsSK499 in 2006 and 2007 and soybean variety Ika in 2008. The ear leaves of maize at flowering (mid-July 2006 and 2007) were analyzed for P, K, …
