Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Vaccaria hispanica (Mill.) Rauschert has been studied for its potential economic value. Its seeds contain valuable starch granules, triterpenic saponins, and cyclopeptides. In the present study, sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) and microsatellite simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were used to assess the genetic diversity and population structure of V. hispanica genotypes. The plant material belonged to 66 genotypes collected from different parts (27 squares, with at least two locations in each square) of Türkiye. The application of 49 SRAP primer pairs produced 476 bands, of which 197 (41.38%) were polymorphic. The polymorphic information content (PIC) ranged from 0.12 to 0.46 …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Approximately 30% of plant species of Turkey, which is among the richest countries in terms of biodiversity, has been endemic. Wild rhubarb (Rheum ribes L.) is a wild vegetable grows especially in the eastern region of Turkey and is an endemic species. In this study, genetic relationships among 80 wild rhubarb genotypes collected from some regions of Lake Van Basin, which are in the distribution area, were tried to be determined by iPBS marker system. At the same time, a commercial variety of R. rhabarbarum, which is a cultivated species, was used as control. PCR studies were conducted with 23 …

Tomato leaf miner is an aggressive and invasive pest that causes serious damage in tomato production, resulting in up to 100% yield losses during serious outbreaks. The management of tomato leaf miner with synthetic pesticides is difficult due to its leaf mining habit, short life span, high reproductive rates, and insecticide resistance problem. In this study, sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (mtCOI) gene of Tuta absoluta specimens were analyzed and compared with the available COI sequence data members from GenBank. All the specimens of tomato leaf miner were clustered together in a single group with a high support …

Genetic Diversity Of Pinto And Fresh Bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris L.) Germplasm Collected From Erzincan Province Of Turkey By Inter-Primer Binding Site (Ipbs) Retrotransposon Markers, Hali̇l İbrahi̇m Öztürk, Ati̇lla Dursun, Arash Hosseinpour, Kami̇l Hali̇loğlu Jan 2020

Genetic Diversity Of Pinto And Fresh Bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris L.) Germplasm Collected From Erzincan Province Of Turkey By Inter-Primer Binding Site (Ipbs) Retrotransposon Markers, Hali̇l İbrahi̇m Öztürk, Ati̇lla Dursun, Arash Hosseinpour, Kami̇l Hali̇loğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, genetic diversity among 71 bean genotypes (41 pinto beans and 30 fresh bean genotypes) and 4 commercial cultivars (Aleyna, Gina, Perolar, and Serra) commonly grown at Erzincan province in Turkey were investigated. The iPBS (inter-primer binding site) markers were used to investigate the genetic diversity of the genotypes. Polymorphism ratio was identified as 100% in all primers. Twenty-seven primers were studied and number of alleles in primers varied between 13?69 (with an average value of 37.14). According to cluster analysis based on iPBS data, genotypes were divided into 2 groups. Polymorphic information content (PIC) values varied between …

Genetic Variation Within The Purple Carrot Population Grown In Ereğli District In Turkey, Ahmet İpek, Önder Türkmen, Sali̇ Fi̇dan, Meryem İpek, Harun Karci Jan 2016

Genetic Variation Within The Purple Carrot Population Grown In Ereğli District In Turkey, Ahmet İpek, Önder Türkmen, Sali̇ Fi̇dan, Meryem İpek, Harun Karci

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Although the majority of carrots grown in Turkey and around the world are orange, the production of anthocyanin-containing purple carrots has recently increased in Turkey due to the extraction of anthocyanin from these carrots for use as a natural food colorant. Purple carrot production for this purpose is concentrated in Ereğli District in Konya Province, and open-pollinated local purple carrot cultivars or landraces have been used for this production. Genetic variation within the local purple carrot populations in this region is of interest to plant breeders worldwide for the development of new purple carrot cultivars. Therefore, in this study, genetic …

Determining The Levels Of Genetic Variation Using Ssr Markers In Three Turkish Barley Materials Known As Tokak, Nejdet Kandemi̇r, Ahmet Yildirim, Rahi̇me Gündüz Jan 2010

Determining The Levels Of Genetic Variation Using Ssr Markers In Three Turkish Barley Materials Known As Tokak, Nejdet Kandemi̇r, Ahmet Yildirim, Rahi̇me Gündüz

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Genetic variations are the raw materials of plant breeding and have been increasingly narrowed due to various reasons. Landraces are good sources of genetic variation, but need to be characterized first. This study was conducted to determine the levels of genetic variation in 3 barley materials originated in Turkey, all known as Tokak. Of the 3 materials used, PI 470281 is a landrace and CIHO 10093 is a pure line. The third is Tokak 157/37, a major cultivar of Turkey considered to be a landrace. In order to detect the levels of polymorphism within and among these materials 30 SSR …

Genetic Variability And Interrelationship Among Grain Yield And Some Quality Traits In Turkish Winter Durum Wheat Landraces, Mevlüt Akçura Jan 2009

Genetic Variability And Interrelationship Among Grain Yield And Some Quality Traits In Turkish Winter Durum Wheat Landraces, Mevlüt Akçura

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Twenty durum wheat pure lines obtained from landraces collected from southwestern districts of Konya and 5 durum wheat cultivars were evaluated under rain fed conditions in Konya between 2005 and 2008 in a 3 replicates randomized complete block design to estimate genetic variation and heritability for grain yield and 6 quality traits. The overall goal of the study was to improve pure lines from durum wheat landraces for low input agricultural areas of the Central Anatolian region and similar environmental conditions. The broad sense heritability estimates ranged from 12.9% (particle size index) to 50.0% (semolina color). The highest expected genetic …

Isozyme Variation In Four Natural Populations Of Cedrus Libani A.Rich. In Turkey, Yusuf Kurt, Nuray Kaya, Kani̇ Işik

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

RT, Nuray KAYA, Kani IŞIK Akdeniz University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Biology Department, 07058 Antalya - TURKEY Abstract Genetic variation in 4 natural populations of Cedrus libani A.Rich. was determined using isoenzyme analyses. Isozymes from 12 enzyme systems extracted from haploid female gametophytes of the seeds were separated by horizontal starch gel electrophoresis. In the 12 enzyme systems, 16 loci and 37 alleles were observed. Average proportion of polymorphic loci for the populations ranged from 43.8% to 62.5%. The average number of alleles per locus per population was estimated as 2.0. Mean estimated expected-heterozygosity (He) of the populations was …
