Evaluation Of Effects Of Water-Saving Superabsorbent Polymer On Corn (Zea Mays L.)Yield And Phosphorus Fertilizer Efficiency, Adem Güneş, Nurgül Kitir, Meti̇n Turan, Erdal Elkoca, Ertan Yildirim, Nazmi̇ye Avci

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

There is growing interest in using a reduced rate of mineral fertilizer along with water-saving superabsorbent polymer (WSAP) for field crop production in arid and semiarid regions of the world. The overall objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of hydrogel applications on the phosphorus fertilizer efficiency parameter, yield, and selected physiological properties of corn (Zea mays L.) grown at different levels of water deficiency in greenhouse conditions. The experimental design consisted of 3 completely randomized blocks in a factorial arrangement, with 9 hydrogel doses (0%, 0.01%, 0.02%, 0.04%, 0.08%, 0.12%, 0.2%, 0.4%, and 0.6%), 4 phosphorus fertilizer …

Determination Of In-Row Seed Distribution Uniformity Using Image Processing, Engi̇n Çakir, İkbal Aygün, Arzu Yazgi, Yi̇ği̇t Karabulut

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The objective of this study was to determine the seed distribution uniformity of seeding machines using a low sensitivity (maximum 300 frames per second (fps)) high-speed camera and image processing method for corn, cotton, and wheat seeds under laboratory conditions. For this purpose, a high-speed camera with 100, 200, and 300 fps was used to measure the seed drop from the seeding tube onto the sticky belt. Video images then were transferred to the image processing algorithm, from which seed distribution can be calculated. The calculated measurements were compared statistically with the measurements obtained from sticky belt tests. According to …

Xanthium Strumarium L. Impact On Corn Yield And Yield Components, Zahid Hussain, Khan Bahadar Marwat, John Cardina, Ijaz Ahmad Khan Jan 2014

Xanthium Strumarium L. Impact On Corn Yield And Yield Components, Zahid Hussain, Khan Bahadar Marwat, John Cardina, Ijaz Ahmad Khan

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Xanthium strumarium L. is a major weed affecting flour corn in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. Studies conducted in 2006 and 2007 evaluated corn yield and yield component responses to competition from X. strumarium over a range of corn populations (5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5 plants m^{-2}) and X. strumarium densities (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 plants m^{-2}). Flour corn yield and yield components (grains ear^{-1}, 1000-grain weight, harvest index, and days to silking) were significantly correlated with and affected by corn population, weed density, and the interaction between them. The percent reduction in grain yield was …

Effect Of Foliar Applied Kinetin And Indole Acetic Acid On Maize Plants Grown Under Saline Conditions, Cengi̇z Kaya, Ati̇lla Levent Tuna, Abdulkadi̇r Mustafa Okant Jan 2010

Effect Of Foliar Applied Kinetin And Indole Acetic Acid On Maize Plants Grown Under Saline Conditions, Cengi̇z Kaya, Ati̇lla Levent Tuna, Abdulkadi̇r Mustafa Okant

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study examined the effects of kinetin (KIN) and indoleacetic acid (IAA) sprayed on the leaves of salinity-stressed maize (Zea mays L. cv., DK 647 F1) plants grown in field conditions. Salt stress was created by adding 100 mM NaCl to the irrigation water through a drip irrigation system during the irrigation schedule. Kinetin (KIN), indole acetic acid (IAA), and their combinations were sprayed foliarly. Salt stress (S) reduced the total dry matter, grain yield, chlorophyll content, and relative water content (RWC), but increased electrolyte leakage and proline accumulation in the maize plants. Foliar applications of both KIN and IAA …
