Rat And Mouse Control On The Farm, John Lofgren

SDSU Extension Circulars

Each year the Norway ( or brown) rat and the common house mouse consume thousands of bushels of grain and other foods on South Dakota farms. They attack grain in the field and in farm storage. At the time they consume the grain they also pollute and contaminate it by their droppings, urine and hair. Every 24 hours each rat voids an average of 70 pellets and about 15 cc of urine. Such contamination makes food grains subject to seizure by the Food and Drug Administration because they are unfit for human use. The monetary losses resulting from such seizure …

Meats are excellent protein foods. Meat protein contains generous amounts of the essential amino acids. These are the amino acids which your food must provide to enable your body to build its protein. Protein rich vegetables and cereals may lack one or more of these essential amino acids. Meat enhances their protein value when it is served with them. The B vitamins and the minerals--phosphorus, iron and copper--are found along with protein in the meat. Pork is an exceptionally good source of thiamine and iron. Under ordinary circumstances, if your protein needs are met, your body's need for the B …

Make A Slip Cover, Rosa Starkey

SDSU Extension Circulars

A well-made, properly styled slip cover has a place in today's home decoration, for it can give a new and fresh appearance to a room. The slip cover described in this bulletin is made in several ·separate sections. With this method the number of sections will depend on the structure of the chair. Usually the back is one finished piece, each arm one piece, the seat-base and seat-front one piece, and the cushion one piece, totaling five separate sections. Because this slip cover has separate sections, it is easy to make and easy to fit smoothly to the chair. When …
