Nutritional And Economic Analysis Of Small-Scale Agriculture In Imbabura, Ecuador, Jake Erickson

Intervention projects in the developing world normally aim to satisfy either the nutritional needs of a group, or advancing the economic stability, but not both. One of the many issues that may arise by narrowly focusing and creating an aid program is that although a group may be fed, they are not equipped to mitigate risks that will arise after project completion and thus continue or revert back to a malnourished state. A bridge is required to join the economic and nutritional programs to create aid interventions that are sustainable past the point of donor separation.

A sample of agricultural parcels in Salt Lake County, Utah was analyzed to determine the effects on assessed values and per acre taxes under alternative assessment methods; assessment according to market value or agricultural value (preferential treatment).

The assessed value changes and tax shifting between all classes of taxable property in the county were calculated with and without the preferential assessment of agricultural land and at assessment levels equalized for all classes.

Agriculture is the backbone of Jordan's economy. It provides employment and a living for 40 per cent or more of the total population. However, very few farmers have accumulated enough capital to finance their farm operations from planting to harvest. The Agricultural Credit Corporation was established to provide farmers with credit at a relatively low cost. Without the low cost loans many farmers cannot stay on their farms. The Agricultural Credit Corporation is the most important agency in terms of the direct help it offers to farmers.
