Ethiopia's Sovereign Right Of Access To The Sea Under International Law, Abebe T. Kahsay Jan 2007

Ethiopia's Sovereign Right Of Access To The Sea Under International Law, Abebe T. Kahsay

LLM Theses and Essays

Since Eritrea’s secession from Ethiopia there has been continuous opposition by intellectuals and the opposition to the government’s policy of making Ethiopia a landlocked country. Some totally reject the secession, while others accept the independence as a "fait accompli" and voice concern over the lack of an outlet to the sea, and still others acknowledge the right of self-determination and secession of Eritrea but denounce the inconsistency of the application of the Transitional Charter regarding the Red Sea Afar and the Algiers Agreement for denying Ethiopia its legitimate right to access to the sea and allege that the government is …

Taxation Of Natural Resources: Are Provisions Applying To The Domestic Natural Resources Industry Also Applicable To Deep Seabed Mining?, Jozef Leysen

This thesis examines whether United States law on the taxation of natural resources applies to deep seabed mining.

The South Pacific Islands: Economic, Political And Legal Interactions, Vinson F. Jamir

LLM Theses and Essays

This thesis seeks to demonstrate that Oceania is strategically, socially and politically important to the development of the Pacific Basin and that historical facts clearly evidence this importance. The United States, an undoubted principal actor in Pacific Basin Affairs, has been extremely solicitous of Oceania. This deference is a clear illustration of Oceania's long-term importance to the development of the larger Pacific Basin region.

A subsidiary objective of this thesis is to analyze the facts of the U.S.-Oceania relationship in the context of each side's evolving interests in order to develop several recommendations for future development of that relationship and …

Dockside Injuries Under The Longshoremen's And Harbor Worker's Compensation Act, E. D. R., Jr.

Georgia Law Review

Since its enactment in 1927, the Longshoremen's and Harbor Worker's Compensation Act has been the source of much confusion in admiralty law, particularly with respect to admiralty-state jurisdictional conflicts. The Act provides compensation:

"in respect of disability or death of an employee, but only if the dis- ability or death results from an injury occurring upon the navigable waters of the United States (including any dry dock) and if recovery for the disability or death through workman's compensation proceedings may not validly be provided by State law."

Since the purpose of the Act was to cover injuries not compensable under …
