On June 4, 2025, Cardozo celebrated its 47th Commencement at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall, conferring degrees on 304 J.D. graduates and 83 LL.M. graduates. Dean Melanie Leslie ’91 reminded students of their responsibility to uphold the Constitution, while keynote speaker Hon. Caitlin J. Halligan urged them to pursue meaningful paths in the law. Student speakers Koral Bahat, Denise Pasi, and Talia Raoufpur reflected on resilience, diversity, and community. Yeshiva University President Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman encouraged graduates to lead with integrity and purpose.

The Perlmutter Center for Legal Justice at Cardozo Law announced that its client Larry Hoover has been granted clemency after serving over 52 years in prison. Hoover, now 74, spent the last three decades at the ADX Florence supermax facility, much of it in solitary confinement. During his incarceration, he transformed his life by teaching himself to read, earning his GED, and pursuing studies in various subjects. He has renounced his past gang affiliations and is committed to mentoring at-risk youth.

Assistant Professor of Law Britta Redwood has been accepted to present at the 2025 Harvard/Stanford/Yale Junior Faculty Forum, taking place June 2–3 at Harvard Law School. Her paper, “A Brutal Anomaly: Unfettered Ownership Rights and the Illegality of Transatlantic Chattel Slavery,” was selected through a competitive double-blind review process. The work argues that transatlantic chattel slavery was unlawful at the time it was practiced, challenging Eurocentric interpretations of treaty and customary international law and instead grounding its analysis in general principles of international law. The Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law announced the creation of the Judith and William Greenblatt Career Success Center, supported by a $5 million gift from Judith and William Greenblatt ’82, P’14. This transformative contribution, among the largest in Cardozo’s history, expands the Office of Career Services and supports the Rise Up for Cardozo campaign. The Kathryn O. Greenberg Immigration Justice Clinic at Cardozo School of Law secured a major win for a client facing deportation. Under the supervision of Clinical Teaching Fellow Ellie Norton, students Vasundhra Navjeevan ’25 and Anais Rosenblatt ’25 successfully argued that their client qualified for protection under the Convention Against Torture, preventing his return to a country where he risked severe harm. The students dedicated months of research and advocacy, producing a 50-page brief and representing their client in court, resulting in a decision that adopted many of their arguments.

Chief Justice Roberts of the United States Supreme Court has said that "the way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race. "I In this Article, I examine what it means to discriminate on the basis of race-or what it means to stop discriminating on the basis of race. I consider interventions designed to enhance social welfare in an economy with racially discriminatory games operating at its base. The note examines the groundbreaking implications of New Jersey Bill S147, which mandates the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to develop complete street designs specifically addressing the needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (autism). This legislation represents a significant shift in complete streets policies, which traditionally focus on physical accessibility but rarely prioritize non-physical disabilities. The note argues that NJDOT’s implementation of these designs must include tailored strategies, such as mobility education, staff training, and improved signage, to ensure independent and safe travel for this population. The Supreme Court has thrust abortion onto ballots nationwide, transforming fundamental rights into political battlegrounds. In the aftermath of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, people with disabilities face a perfect storm of eroded reproductive freedoms and persistent barriers to democratic participation. This Article exposes the hollow promise of the Court's purported deference to "the people's elected representatives," revealing instead a landscape where those most affected by abortion restrictions struggle to have their voices heard. The Court's invocation of democracy is arguably disingenuous, serving more as a rhetorical device than agenuine commitment to democratic principles. Nevertheless, engaging with this …
