Chicago-Kent Law Review
Cultural heritage has been targeted during military conflicts throughout history. Currently, the conflict in Syria is resulting in the destruction of ancient immoveable cultural heritage property. This destruction is particularly devastating because Syria has served as a melting pot of Eastern and Western cultures throughout history. This note examines the history of international laws aimed at the protection of cultural heritage property. After applying those laws to the current Syrian conflict, this note offers multiple suggestions to improve the protection of immoveable cultural heritage property. The Identification And Exploitation Of Terrorist Financing, Jacob S. Gordon

Terrorism and the threat of terrorist attacks have forced the United States to place a high priority on developing a comprehensive counterterrorism strategy. A crucial component of this overarching strategy focuses on targeting the finances of a terrorist organization, hoping to eliminate or stifle their sources of funding in an effort to render the organization incapable of launching successful operations due to an absence of funding. By analyzing the most common financing options that terrorist groups use, the United States can hone its ability to disrupt the funding operations for terrorist groups. Executive Order 13492: Legal Borderlands, Laura Diaz
Themis: Research Journal of Justice Studies and Forensic Science
On January 22, 2009, newly inaugurated President Barack Obama implemented Executive Order 13492. The order refers to the legal disposition of detainees at the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base and the termination of the detention center. The Executive Order lists five possible options to close Guantánamo Bay and to otherwise try and place current prisoners elsewhere: prosecution under military law, prosecution under federal law, permanent detainment, deportation and release. Still, Guantánamo Bay remains open. Guantánamo detainees exist in a legal limbo without formal charges and trial. Executive Order 13492 was created to place them elsewhere and close the detention center.

The right of minorities and disadvantaged groups are essential to human rights and democracy. These issues are multilayered and each specific case presents its own challenges. To further understand the minority rights dilemma, the struggles of minority groups in the United States will be highlighted, as well as the Roma population in Macedonia. The comparison of domestic minority treatment within the United States and how minorities are treated in other nations will help to paint a broader picture of the difficulties that minorities across the world experience.
