The Republic of Adaria, on one side, and the Republic of Bobbia, the Kingdom of Cazalia, the Commonwealth of Dingoth, the State of Ephraim and the Kingdom of Finbar, jointly on the other, have submitted by Special Agreement their differences concerning the Rotian Union, and transmitted a copy thereof to the Registrar of the Court pursuant to article 40(1) of the Statute.

International labor standards are among the oldest international standards pertaining to the conduct of private, as well as public, economic actors. Far from being settled, however, nearly every aspect of the current international labor standards regime is in flux: the role of labor standards in the international legal, economic, political, and social order, as well as in the parallel domestic orders; the modes by which standards are brought into being; the manner and means of their implementation and enforcement; the degree to which they may be binding solely on nation-state parties, and enforceable only at their behest; and the extent …

This article searches for solutions to the most perplexing problems in global health - problems so important that they affect the fate of millions of people, with economic, political, and security ramifications for the world's population. There are a variety of solutions scholars propose to improve global health and close the yawning health gap between rich and poor: global health is in the national interests of the major State powers; States owe an ethical duty to act; or international legal norms require effective action. I left Harvard 15 years ago to come to Georgetown University, formed in the year of our Constitution and established by an Act of Congress. More than Oxford or Harvard, Georgetown embodied my highest ideals of using world-class scholarship to serve the needs of the most disadvantaged. The Jesuit mission of social justice, which permeates our scholarship and teaching, has deep meaning to me. And the Jesuit ideal of “the human being fully alive,” resonates with my view of the salient importance of human health and wellbeing. Diamonds On The Souls Of Her Shoes: The Kimberly Process And The Morality Exception To Wto Restrictions, Karen E. Woody

This Article analyzes the events predicating the Kimberley Process and examines the validity of the Kimberley Process in relation to international trade obligations. Part I describes the background of conflict diamonds and their role in African wars. The section outlines the need for regulation in the diamond industry and examines how other attempted measures at curbing the illicit diamond trade have fallen short. Part II details the Kimberley Process and its guidelines. This section analyzes the relevant U.S. legislation passed in 2003, the Clean Diamond Trade Act. Nao Valel A Pena (Not Worth The Trouble?) Afro-Brazilian Workers And Brazilian Anti-Discrimination Law, Benjamin Hensler

In this paper Benjamin Hensler examines the paradoxical underdevelopment of Brazilian antidiscrimination law and its impact on the country's Afro-Brazilian population - a group that includes more than 40% of Brazil's citizens, and the vast majority of its poor. The author considers why, despite the presence of both widespread racial discrimination in the country's private labor market and explicit prohibitions on employment discrimination in its constitution, there has been - until quite recently - a glaring absence of successful legal challenges to racial discrimination by Afro-Brazilian workers. Deportation Of Human Rights Abusers: Towards Achieving Accountability, Not Fostering Impunity, Simona Agnolucci
UC Law SF International Law Review
This article discusses recently enacted changes to U.S. immigration law allowing for deportation of violators of international human rights norms. By (1) examining Canada's implementation of similar immigration-based accountability measures for human rights violators; (2) analyzing three cases of alleged human rights violators who left their countries of origin; and (3) discussing deportation. of human rights violators in light of traditional theories of criminal punishment, this paper concludes that deportation alone is an inadequate means of achieving accountability. The article concludes with a series of guidelines for determining whether deportation should be used as part of a greater scheme to …
