A WAVE OF MATCH-FIXING THREATENS THE WORLD’S MOST POPULAR SPORT. There are dozens of national police investigations; hundreds of matches from top international games to the Champions League to youth teams have been fixed and over one thousand players, coaches and referees have been arrested. This new form of sports corruption will destroy football, unless we fight it. TO FIGHT IT, WE HAVE TO UNDERSTAND IT. ‘The Insider’s Guide to Match-Fixing in Football’ is an analysis of the motivations, the mechanisms and the methods within this modern form of fixing.

Baker, Heitner, Broçard and Byon, in their article Football v. Football, analyze agent regulation in the NFL and compare it to how agents are regulated in France for Ligue 1. The article begins with a brief discussion on the concept of a sports agency that includes analysis of governmental regulation of agency in both the United States and in France. The article continues by exploring how agents are regulated in their representation of the NFL and Ligue 1 football players. The 2006 FIFA World Cup was a disappointing display of soccer, comprising forgettable athletic contests that turned most critically on the administration of justice. Referees, more than athletes, emerged as the central protagonists in each game by providing the most dramatic plot twist - either by handing out red cards, which they did at a record pace, or awarding penalty kicks, which provided the winning goal in almost ten percent of the tournament's games. Coaches' Liability For Athletes' Injuries And Deaths, Thomas R. Hurst, James N. Knight

In the brutally hot summer of 2001, three prominent athletes lost their lives on playing fields across the country. Football players Korey Stringer of the Minnesota Vikings,' Rashidi Wheeler of Northwestern University, and Eraste Autin of the University Florida collapsed and died in summer practices. These practices are an annual rite that has preceded each football season since the sport was conceived approximately ninety years ago. While these deaths are tragic, they are certainly not uncommon. Since 1995, eighteen high school and collegiate football players have died while participating in practices or games. In America's litigious society, these deaths raise …

Is it fair that professional football players possess so much control in renegotiating contracts? Do the players in fact possess the control that we perceive them to have? Often, players do have most of the bargaining power, as in the case of college players being chosen in the draft. Once a team has chosen to pursue a draftee out of college, no other team has the right to interfere with that process.
